Washington (CNN) -- President Obama, who will act on immigration reform by the end of the year, has not reviewed final administration recommendations on immigration but is aware of the general details in the expected plan, says a senior White House official who is traveling with the President in Myanmar.
"It's not like this is the Academy Awards," said the official, meaning that the contents of the envelope are not a surprise.
Citing his legal authority as chief executive of the United States, Obama said in a press conference in Myanmar Friday that he would act on immigration reform by the end of the year.
"I believe that America is a nation of immigrants," the President said. Everybody agrees that the system is broken; there has been ample opportunity for Congress to pass a bipartisan immigration bill that would strengthen our borders, improve the legal immigration system and lift millions of people out of the shadows so that they are paying taxes and getting right by the law."

His legal authority is to enforce the laws as written by Congress.
If they want to “get right by the law” they should have entered legally.
Thankfully, Obama isn't smart enough to actually work with the Senate and Congress, since (unfortunately) there are plenty of Republicans out there who also favor some form of amnesty. That fraud Marco Rubio's standard threat was always "We'd better pass amnesty before Obama does it!" Now even conmen like Rubio will oppose amnesty because they can't be seen as supporting an Obama executive order, so this will play out very well.
MESSAGE: tell Congress that your midterm vote was specific---a demand that they fight tooth and nail---using both tooth and nail----to demolish the Obama/Reid amnesty plan to force American taxpayers to subsidize the expansion of the Democrat party w/ foreign voters.
AMERICANS HAVE BEEN VERY PATIENT: Americans demand the Republican leadership tell Obama: "If the president unilaterally moves to augment the power of the Executive Branch in an unprecedented and unconstitutional manner via E/O'ing amnesty, then the Legislative Branch will need to increase its powers in order to maintain the balance of powers called for in the US Constitution.
The Senate can do this in an unprecedented but completely constitutional manner, by providing that the filibuster rule is suspended completely until such time as the president withdraws his executive aggrandizement.
RATIONALE--Obama's temporary amnesty E/O requires temporary suspension of the rule. That should also include Congress passing laws without the president signing the bill.
If it is okay for the president to overreach, then it is okay for Congress to overreach. Obama forgets that the Congress---and Americans---can also say, We have been patient.
I don’t have much faith in this Congress, or the coming one, doing anything real (besides making a big show) to stop him, seeing as they and the COC to which they’re beholden also want it. It’s one reason they’ve worked so hard to demonise and defeat Tea Party candidates.
Bttt
“they are paying taxes and getting right by the law.”
If I get a traffic ticket and refuse to pay, it is professional and financial destruction. Next time, I will simply tell the officer to “tear up the ticket so I can get right by the law”. I wonder how far I will get with that, since I am a native American with a paper trail from the moment of birth. “Getting right by the law” for an illegal alien is to go back home.
I expect the executive order card to be played the same time the Ferguson grand jury issues their decision.
Think that weasel Luis Gutierrez is licking his chops right now. If amnesty is passed Luis becomes a major player in national politics and Hispanics will be the dominant group in America. Luis doesn’t give a rats behind about his fellow Hispanics. That fool has delusions of being a kingmaker and the Democrat honchos will have to go through him for any major political decisions. He wants to be the Latino Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. You can bet on it.
Obama does not even need to go through with it! The borders will once again be flooded with out the illegal executive orders.
He Oamahole. Our system is unenforced. I hate that man.
So he can just refuse to enforce immigration law on the theory that the Feds have prosecutorial discretion? In this case discretion means not enforcing any or just a token number of individuals breaking the law?
This would set precedent for the next president. I would think that this order would be challenged in court. I doubt that B&M would do their job by de-funding any actions that would require funding.
So if the POS rules by EO, the next president can simply revoke the EOs AND enact new EOs such as not imposing the penalty for the individual mandate.
So a Hispanic on CNN this morning and he was grumbling that the Republicans were mucking up the works on immigration reform, as if this was a major concern to keep the country afloat. He called Americans that didn’t want to commit our dilution as “nativist.”
I kind of like that word. It makes us sound like the originators and founders of this country. I’ll take it. Call me a nativist, although I was born 5,000 miles away. But as a woman can not have two husbands, I only have one, and I love it dearly and want to stay faithful and devoted. Unlike these usurpers, who are loyal, only to their country of origin, and want us to be made over in its image.
In reality, we are the descendants of the founders of this country. it wasn’t a country, or a nation, until the founding fathers made it into one.
And those previous immigrants his type likes to use as their excuse, had to come through places like Ellis island and be vetted for disease and criminal history. If they had either, they had to go home if they couldn’t be made well, in the case of the diseased. They had to have some money, or family to live with. It was a given that they would abide by our laws, and most of all, they weren’t given a free ride at the expense of the taxpayers already legally here.
defund it
Impeach him too
It sure is, and I've got a pretty good idea how all those all legal immigrants feel about what you're threatening to do.
