For Sale: Renovated Luxury Condo; Can Survive Nuclear Attack
WSJ ^ | 9 Nov 2014 | LIZ MOYER

Affluent buyers worried about doomsday are snapping up well-appointed bunkers built in a former missile silo.

When Tyler Allen agreed to fork over $3 million in cash for a luxury condominium near Concordia, Kan., he wasn’t attracted by the indoor swimming pool, 17-seat movie theater, or hydroponic vegetable garden.

The real selling point of the 1,820-square-foot apartment: It will be buried 174 feet underground in a decommissioned missile silo sturdy enough to withstand a nuclear attack.

Mr. Allen, a 45-year-old Orlando, Fla., sports bar and nightclub owner, insists he isn’t a “tinfoil hat-wearing” type preparing for the end of the world.

Rather, he cites growing security threats—such as a global health pandemic, cataclysmic weather and terror attacks.

“There’s a Camp David for the president,” he says. “If you’re at a certain level where you can afford it, you can get that, too.”

The so-called Survival Condo complex boasts full and half-floor units that cost $1.5 million to $3 million each. The building can accommodate up to 75 people, and buyers include doctors, scientists and entrepreneurs, says developer Larry Hall...

When the silos went on sale at first the price was fairly cheap.
I know of one that went for less then 100K.

Always wanted to buy one didn’t have the money them don’t have the money now.

And if it doesn’t live up to the stated promises, and everyone does die in a nuclear holocaust, you get a full refund!!

even though they are decommissioned the russians probably still have them on their target list - as they are slow to update and make lots of mistakes in things like that. Do they have air filtration systems that can truly work in that type of situation? Will the security turn canibal in an all out SHTF scenario? Will your fellow homees be rapists, psychotics or just have really bad body odor?? They will soon find out!!

Kind of my thoughts too. Here in NJ, I’ll likely be among the first to go and I’m ok with that. Instantly gone, no pain. I would hate to be around for the aftermath of that.

Very impressive.

I am pretty much certain it could survive nuclear disaster such as a direct hit from a nuclear bomb.

The larger, more immediate and relevant question is, can it survive Obama?

Wind turbine breaks or is broken by whatever event sent you underground. Generators run out of fuel. You are 175 feet underground with 74 other people, no light, no way to move fresh air, no running water.

No thanks.

No kidding! Living underground like that for more than a few months would be torture.

Uh, when their in the dark 175’ below ground, this means sewage pumps cannot work either?

When that happens, the smell will drive them out into the radiation or round II of a nuclear attack!

With Obama making these type decisions for us all, I understand their fear though !
