The apology follows the dated term found in updated Army regulations policy as an acceptable classification for 'a person having origins in any of the black racial groups of Africa.' The newly revised policy now limits the acceptable terms to 'Black or African American.'
The U.S. Army has backtracked with an apology after approving the term "Negro" as an acceptable reference for black service members.
The decision comes two days after the dated term was found listed as an acceptable classification for "a person having origins in any of the black racial groups of Africa" in section 6-2 of the Army's AR 600-20 regulations.
The revised policy now limits the acceptable terms to "Black or African American."
"The U.S. Army fully recognized, and promptly acted, to remove outdated language in Army Regulation 600-20 as soon as it was brought to our attention," Army spokeswoman Lieutenant Colonel Alayne Conway said in a statement.
"We apologize to anyone we offended," she said.
According to Defense Power Research about 21% of active-duty members of the Army are black.

The US Army apologized for using the word “Negro” in some of its internal documents. Meanwhile, the United Negro College Fund STILL continues in its racist ways. and the NAACP, the National Association for the Advancement of COLORED PEOPLE, still uses shameful racist terms.
When do you think they will apologize for their racism?
a) Never
b) When Obama declares Obamacare doesn’t work
c) When Obama admits global warming is made up
d) Something else

Somehow, Naughty Girl Meadow sounds even more risque, don’t you think?
I then had to wrack my brain for a minute or two to come up with "hold back" rather than retarded. This is the new generation of politically correct masters who try and control speech.
I'm sure on many forums if you call someone a homosexual instead of "gay", you'll get reprimanded and maybe have your posting privileges revoked.
Well maybe we just never realized how negative their color is to Negroes
Maybe Not-free Woman Meadow?
African American > Teresa Heinz, among others.”
Most North Africans (Egyptian-Americans, Algerian Americans, etc) are African Americans, but are racially Caucasian. And since the color black has been an age-old symbol of evil to many people (perhaps contributing to centuries of racial injustice), and African American is a stupid Jesse Jackson term anyway, I recommend the Black Muslim term “So - Called Negro” as a racial designation.
Those people expect the use of a (increasingly) niggardly lexicon.....
The NAACP are at a minimum Socalist-Americans.
Did they go Ding dong on horse racing
Okay my bad that old KFI radio news saying LOL!
I have an idea. Don’t have any designation for race.
So will the United Negro College Fund get the Washington Redskins and Cleveland Indians treatment? Is Colored People suddenly OK again or is the NAACP to be picketed by people who think there’s a constitutional amendment protecting them from being offended? Rhetorical questions, of course.
Remember `Spearchucker Jones’ from MASH the movie?
And `Blazing Saddles’?
The left has turned America into Oceania.
Political correctness is one reason. Bad publicity for the Army G-1 letting the offending term get reused from an earlier version (in 90s) of the AR, because no body paid attention to the details when reviewing and approving the new AR. Just like the G-1 abolished the Army regimental system for soldiers and units last year because no one in G-1 properly proof read the changes or staffed it with other organizations that would have noticed it, such as the Army History folks.
Then don't go whining when you hear the words black soul, black death, black plague; etc. This is the way you guys have chosen to describe yourself? No wonder Hernstein/Murray book, "The Bell Curve," was written.
p.s. note I said 'you guys' instead of you people. Who sez I'm not sensitive?
Is the United Negro College Fund going to have to change its name? Or only if it joins the army?
What the hell.....?
You've got no call to go insulting me like that. I defy you to find a single post in my nearly 40,000 posts here, whining about anything having to do with being black.
I've always considered myself to be just a man - like any other man, albeit with a dark paint job.
No wonder Hernstein/Murray book, "The Bell Curve," was written.
And you agree with that sick, racist crap?
Damn.
Let’s not start in on Windflier. He’s a darn good guy.
Okay... but we all must have seen the movie “Malcom X” where Denzel Washington is in prison trying to straighten his hair while some other prisoner turns him onto Elijah Mohammed by reading Denzel dictionary descriptions of white vs black; e.g., white, devoid of color; black, evil; etc. If one is going to choose that connotation for oneself and one’s ethnic group, one shouldn’t complain too much about the longstanding meanings involved with such terminology.
Until that term becomes politically incorrect.
