Arrowhead (John) fell off a 20 ladder at work, onto his head, and has a severe brain injury!
Broke all the bones in his face and skull, broke his shoulder blade and some ribs.
His last post was 10/20 in the morning. He fell about 2pm that same day and was LifeFlighted to the hospital; then, after about 6 hours of surgery, he went directly to ICU. It was touch and go for days in critical condition.
After 2 weeks in ICU he has been transferred to a Specialty Neurological Rehab center in Austin, as of 11/3.
He can move his arms and legs, so no spinal injury, but he is not cognizant. Sometimes he can respond to can you squeeze my hand?, sometimes not. His daughter is getting ready to go back home.
The nurses are calling them every day. Small improvements are noticed, such as he sat up for 10 seconds today, but no one has a prognosis. Brain injuries heal how they heal, when the heal, if they heal....3 to 6 months at least.
PRAY HARD, please!!!! And spread the word to your prayer lists.
Continued prayers.
To Arrowhead1952 and his family: God bless you, and keep plugging along. Everything takes time. I will continue to pray for you all.
A TBI is hard to recover from; I know as it has been for me.....
Several posted about dealing with this - so glad to see some have recovered, even if that recovery is ongoing. Best of luck to you
These are all great signs of significant improvement!! Hang in there!!
Prayers up! God bless.
I was going to ask yesterday if there was an update on your dad and here it is. Thanks so much. He’s missed on FR. Can’t say much good about hospital green jello but here’s hoping he can swallow a gallon of it soon.
Still dealing with a little dizzynes and balance problem two yers later but its slowly getting better.
Arrowhead needs to keep the faith GOD will eventally heal it all.
I pray still for a recovery with sincere prayers.
Prayers up
Prayers continue.
Thank you for keeping us in the loop concerning Arrowhead.
Thanks SandRat -
Praying for your Dad.
Thank you, exit82...this is so true.
You are right....he knows he is hurt, but healing, but not being able to communicate is rough.
One day at a time, Arrowhead, one day at a time.
Thanks...he and his wife and daughter are all working hard on his recovery, each in his or her own way.
Nothing really new to report this week, just continuing very slow recovery. The swallow test did not go as well as they had hoped, so they are going to try again in 2 weeks. (Didn't go quite to the correct place, down the right tube, etc.) For now he is still on the feeding tube. My aunt went to visit this week and said when he started to talk, she could understand the first word or two of the sentence a little more clearly, then it went garbled again. Still, that's the right track, so we are hoping that continues!
My mom passes on her thanks for all of the continued cards. She got them all out again the other day and my dad really enjoyed picking them all up and looking through each one. :) I will let you know when and if I hear new things this week and next, and will definitely have a very thorough update the week after as I am going back to Texas from Kansas on the 20th, and it seems to always be easier when I can explain the situation from being there first-hand.
Thanks for the update Kathy...it’s appreciated. Will keep Arrowhead in my prayers.
Thanks for the update. Prayers for Arrowhead and friends and family.
Thanks for the update Kathy!!
