Salon Writer Condemns Arithmetic As Racist
NY Magazine ^ | 06 October 2014 | Jonathan Chait

Wendy Davis made herself a progressive champion by running as an outspoken progressive in a really conservative state, with the predictable result that she lost really, really badly. Salon’s Jenny Kutner, a strong Davis supporter, concedes that Davis did, in fact, lose. What Kutner refuses to concede is that Davis lost among women:

The Tribune cited CNN exit polls to illustrate the landslide, saying Abbott “beat Davis by lopsided margins with white voters (72-27), men (65-34) and women (52-47). Davis beat Abbott among Latinos (57-42) and African-Americans (93-7).” Last time I checked, though, there were thousands upon thousands of women in Texas considered Latina and African-American — what about their votes?

As RH Reality Check’s Andrea Grimes reports, their votes were solidly in Davis’ favor: 94 percent of black women and 61 percent of Latinas voted for her. Only 32 percent of white women did. That’s certainly not enough women to say that Abbott won the whole gender [emphasis added]

It’s … not? My admittedly crude method of answering the question “Did Greg Abbott or Wendy Davis win the female vote” would be to compare the number of women who voted for Abbott with the number of women who voted for Davis, and define the larger number as the winner.

Inherently discriminatory. All outcomes should be equal! Power to the equations!

"Davis beat Abbott among Latinos (57-42) and African-Americans (93-7).”

Do these voters understand that Davis's campaign was basically a promise to white voters to continue aborting black and Hispanic babies in disproportionate numbers?

The 93-7 margin among African Americans is very telling. In what way do African Americans thrive under Democratic leadership? In any way? In any tangible way that would justify a 93-7 margin? I don’t think so. It is about 93% psychological brainwashing in my opinion.

I agree. They're not that enthusiastic about Wendy Davis's signature issue. They couldn't tell you what it is. They vote Democrat without even knowing who the candidate is.

This is hilarious. Libs are too stupid to realize how truly stupid they are.

That was Chatty Kathy, not Barbie! How my little sister pined that doll! Your remark brought back the memory of how her big blue eyes lit up her whole face that Christmas morning so many years ago! Makes me smile just thinking about it.

I think what she is implying is somehow certain votes (women, blacks, etc.) should count more than others. This is also why they want to do away with the electoral college popular vote can override smaller states, in effect mob rule. I do not think I have read a more confused, incoherent piece as this.

You have to remember that it galls a lot of the left that white woman are still part of the affirmative action gravy train. They would love to kick them off that wagon.

No one cares about this level of gender politics. Besides, the democrat party is comprised of blacks who prop up white liberal elites... it’s not much more complicated than that...

Sad but true.

If anything, next to God Himself, math is the least racist thing there is.

It’s fundamental to so many things. It’s values are immutable. It’s the closest thing there is to a universal language.

It doesn’t matter what skin color you have, or even if you’re polka-dotted, math is constant.

Except when it isn’t... LOL When you get into physics, there are some interesting conundrums.

I think what the author of the Salon article is saying is that any woman who voted for Abbot isn’t really a woman. And therefore her vote doesn’t count.

Probably not. Blacks in particular seem oblivious to the fact that their overall demographic numbers are shrinking relative to the whole (and have remained stagnant at around 13% for decades).

Maybe they just don’t care? I don’t know.
