McConnell unveils plan to dismantle ObamaCare
The Hill ^ | 11-6-14 | Sarah Ferris

Posted on 11/06/2014 10:50:08 AM PST by afraidfortherepublic

Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is planning to make ObamaCare a priority in his first weeks as leader of the Senate, vowing a sustained effort to dismantle the law piece-by-piece.

Instead of a full repeal, McConnell said the GOP will tackle unpopular aspects of the law such as the individual mandate, the medical device tax and the 30-hour workweek requiring employers to provide insurance.

“These are the kinds of things that I believe there is a bipartisan majority in the Senate to approve,” he said in the interview with Time magazine published Wednesday. The only other priority he listed was the Keystone XL pipeline. The newly reelected senator isn't giving up on full repeal, however.

"He does support full repeal and will continue to push for it," McConnell spokesman Brian McGuire told The Hill.

I'm a firm believer in going after low hanging fruit first.

I think the Medical Device Tax is popular enough to override any veto.

I would have started there.

I think that McConnell did mention that. That was one of the things that I couldn’t remember.

*SIGH* Don’t you get it? This isn’t about Obama. At all. He is done in two years! In case you didn’t realize, the 2016 elections began yesterday. This is about forcing the Dems to defend a wildly unpopular law. Positioning for 2016. Get it?

He said that they were going to go back to declaring a forty hour work week as full time employment, which would mean that Employers would not be subjected to Obamacare rules for employees who worked less than forty hours. People get to keep their jobs.

At least 39 hours worth.

"0bama doesn’t negotiate."

Why would he when the likes of McConnell, Romney, and McCain are the "heavy hitters" for the other team?

People get to keep their jobs.

But not their liberty.

The best we can do right now is chip away at it piece by piece.

Agreed. Small steps, small steps, just like the anti-gun crowd does.

The GOP might be on to something here.

Repealing it bit by bit, forcing the President to sign or veto the repeal of each Tyrannical provision of the ACA, might be a very effective way to dismantle the law.

Knowing how the legislation was originally passed, how Tyrannical and destructive of prosperity many of the provisions are, large majorities of the People will be very angry if 0bama repeatedly refuses to repeal onerous things like the Individual Mandate, for instance.

If the GOP uses this approach, I think the President will be forced to actually sign some of the repeal provisions.

I'm going to enjoy watching 0bama squirm against the will of large majorities of the People in the next 2 years.

Just sending a full repeal of a bill thousands of pages long, isn't going to nearly have the same impact when it is vetoed as sending all of the most publicly despised parts and watching him be the one keeping them in place.

Exactly.

The GOP can highlight a “Crappy Feature of Obamacare Of The Week” and draw the public’s attention to it as they force Barry to veto the bill.

Once again: exactly.

Although I am a big supporter of Ted Cruz, I agree that shinning a light on every aspect of obmaneycare and forcing the dims to defend it is a great way to show the American public just how many lips and arseholes were involved in the special sausage making the dims employed.

Make the American people see that the brown flecks they were forced to consume really is fecal matter and if the dims try to defend it, well then say hello to President Cruz in 2016.

IOW, tell Obama he can keep his unconstitutional liberty robbing masterpiece as long as he doesn't violate the constitution further by granting Amnesty to illegals.

Didn't bother to read the rest of my post, did you?

You know, the part where I said to poison pill the thing to death?

Which is a better political option than straight repeal anyways. Part of Obamacare fails. It gets removed. Then another part fails. It gets removed. A third part fails, it gets removed. So on.

All the while the Republicans are taking each and every failure/removal as an opportunity to explain to the American public why big-government "unconstitutional liberty robbing masterpiece(s)" don't work and can never work.

Well, think if this as what we would do today if we were to fight the abortion battle from the start.
We went for all or nothing at a bad time and got NOTHING.

So if they can get a super majority to overrule Obama, then what would be wrong with taking it down piece by piece?
I doubt you can enough Democrats to repeal the whole thing at this time.

If we long ago IMO went for no abortion except for life of the mother, rape or incest the laws today would probably reflect that and not all abortion being OK.
So, I think we get piece by piece now and then with a Republican full majority with a President you repeal it and give for a couple of years a credit to all the takers that this Obamacare gave free insurance to.

I know for a fact people fake the information to get free stuff if they can and you need to peel those people off the dole and back to work.

Eliminate the Obamacare line from the tax forms for 2014. Do it now!

The IRS has already admitted that processing the 2014 tax forms will be difficult because of Obamacare. They should remove it from the forms plus ease up on taxes this year to give Americans a chance to regroup.

...makes sense. Our experience over the last few years has been “get them into office and nothing gets done”. Your explanation is a good one. I just hope it’s what they’re actually doing.

The House already passed full repeal. Bring it to a vote. Let Obama repeal it. THEN do the piecemeal thing.

Bump.

I think that would be the better way, but bill after small bill forcing a veto, and forcing the rats to vote again and again isn't the worst thing. Barky's gonna veto them, make him veto a hundred bills since we can't get rid of the little tin pot ahole. Tie them around the evil party's neck.
