Republicans won major victories nationally on Tuesday, reclaiming control of the United States Senate and picking up approximately a dozen seats in the House of Representatives.
As well as the GOP did in the broader country, they absolutely ran wild in Texas. It has now been twenty years since a Democrat has won election to a statewide office. None of their candidates for any of those spots managed to crack 40% of the vote.
Wendy Davis garnered a great deal of attention and money in her quest for the governor's mansion. Aided by the resource-rich organizers at Battleground Texas, she was supposed to color the state some shade of purple. In actuality, she garnered fewer votes than Bill White did in 2010 and only 10,000 more ballots than Democrat Tony Sanchez did in his 2002 race against Rick Perry. Wendy Davis performed worse than any Democratic candidate running for governor since Gary Mauro got slaughtered by an incumbent chief executive named George W. Bush in 1998. Below is a map showing the county by county distribution of support in the race. Maroon counties gave Greg Abbott more than 75% of their votes, red ones voted for him 55-74.99%, and in pink ones he won with less than 55%. The same brackets and color intensities apply to Wendy Davis.
The most Democratic county in the state was Starr County in far southwest Texas, which gave Wendy Davis 77.4% of their ballots. King County in west central Texas takes the prize as the most Republican locale, voting for Greg Abbott at the astonishing proportion of 96.8%.
Exit poll data provides even more evidence of the extent of the Abbott success. The Republican won 66% of men and, in a race supposedly fought by the Democrat to "stand up for Texas women," 54% of female voters. Abbott turned in a very respectable 44% showing among Hispanics and took 72% of whites.
In the 18-29 year old demographic, Abbott and Davis tied, though the former dominated 25-29 year-olds by a whopping 14 points. Abbott took over 65% of those voters aged over 50, which comprised about half of the electorate. He won high school graduates, college drop-outs, college graduates, and post-graduate degree earners. Abbott tied Davis among voters making less than 50k a year, and won every other income bracket including 70% of those making over 200,000 a year.
Abbott also captured heavily-populated Bexar and Harris Counties, places where White won in 2010.
Forget Turn Texas Purple or Turn Texas Blue, on the surface Texas just turned a darker shade of red.

Texan conservatives had a big night. Not only did Abbott blow Davis out of the water, but Will Hurd won an unexpected congressional race against Pete Gallego in district 23.
Also, smarting from their recent defeat at the hands of the Tea Party in legislative races for state house and senate, RINOS were undoubtedly secretly disappointed that the state’s conservative caucus got backup in the form of Konni Burton who seized Wendy Davis’ state senate seat.
Would be willing to be that many votes in the RGV were selected by the party bosses in the area. All it takes is a precinct captain looking away at the right time.
The RINOs sure did well. George P. and Cornyn did better than Abbott or Cornyn.
Bush won land commissioner. big whoop.
And Cornyn had maybe $10 spent against him. Abbott was actually attacked by his opponent.
I look at that and think - what the hell is wrong with Dallas?
I have never see any real evidence that voter fraud at the retail level at an actual polling station, that for which voter id is effective, is or ever has been a significant issue, except possibly in extremely tight races.
It’s just too difficult logistically to arrange for hundreds or thousands of people to impersonate someone else. For instance, here is FL Scott won governor by 80,000 votes, considered a close race. To beat him using retail voter fraud, they would have had to come up with 80k+ fraudulent voters. That’s pretty tough to do, especially without getting caught.
Voter fraud at the wholesale level, when the votes are counted, is of course an entirely different matter, as is games played with absentee voters and vote by mail stuff. Possibly also the people registered and voting in several different places.

Like many of our new governors, elect. He appears to be good man and a good conservative Republican.
Good job Texas on stopping Abortion Debbie and electing a good man to be your governor.
This is where you premise is WRONG!
They don’t need 80+K illegal IDs! They need a combination of events and triggers to get to 80+K.
They can suppress the votes of legal voters - I have seen this, I have been a victim of this!
They can jerk around the absentee voters and “lose” ballots in the mail - I have been subjected to this while in the Marine Corps.
They can cross-vote in several states - There are over a million people currently registered to vote in two or more states.
They can issue fake IDs - this happens every single day!
They can GOTV by using retirement homes as easy fodder - This has been reported upon multiple times.
So, they don’t have to drum up 80+K people to whom they must issue fake IDs and voting cards. But a good combination of the above can easily eclipse 80+K. And we know for a fact that there are reports of dead people voting for YEARS after they are dead, but I am sure that is not fraud.
There was either a green or libertarian, and a democrat to choose from, other than cornyn.
Next time cornyn is up for election, we need a true conservative to go up against him.
No doubt, the election of Konni Burton to replace Wendy Davis in TX Senate District 10 is undeniable evidence of a major new commitment to conservative principles in Texas. Senate District 10 is the only true swing Senate district in the state according to Ms. Burton and to have a TEA Party favorite take that office is huge.
The most amazing improvement is the replacement of moderate (RINO) David Dewhurst with TEA Party favorite Dan Patrick as TX Lieutenant Governor. The Lieutenant Governor is arguably the most powerful office in Texas politics (more than Governor) and certainly in regards to influencing legislative agenda. I expect some major new conservative initiatives in the next TX legislative session.
They studied this in my home state. 35,000+ people were registered in multiple states, and of those, 700+ of them voted multiple times.
Now, do I think that people are voting at home, then driving to Arkansas to vote for Obama all over again? Sure, there's probably a few, but not many.
Nope, what I see as indicative of is that people are having their votes cast for them, fraudulently.
I'd be curious to find out if the new Texas Voter ID bill cleaned up some of this activity.
I forgot that one, and what’s more, this positions Patrick well for a potential Cornyn challenge when he is next up. He would perform way better than Stockman.

Everybody of independent means moved out to the other cities surrounding greater Dallas. The liberals and government plantation throwbacks were left behind to keep the lights on and the home fires burning. Kinda like Detroit...except with Ebola.

Spend a few minutes around the DART stations in Dallas, and you’ll find plenty of gibsmedats.
