Voters handed control of the Texas Senate to its most conservative member Tuesday, punctuating the state's rightward shift by choosing Houston tea party darling Dan Patrick for the powerful post of lieutenant governor.

The flamboyant radio show host, who was once considered too extreme for higher office even in deeply red Texas, scored a smaller victory than other statewide Republicans but still easily defeated fellow senator Leticia Van de Putte of San Antonio in a race that never became as competitive as Democrats hoped.

Got to give Leticia credit. She fought a hard, honest and morale run. She is one of the good guys even if I’m not on board with some of her beliefs.

Good news on top of good news. Our newly elected Governor just said today, that if the Texas legislature sends him an open carry bill, he’ll sign it.

Looks like we’re getting off to a fine start here.

Characterizing a 58% to 39% drubbing as:

“scored a smaller victory than other statewide Republicans”

is disingenuous, maybe even blatantly deceptive. The headline would be more accurate if it read— Patrick beats Van De Putte like (a rented mule) (Sitting Bull did to Custer), (a drum) [pick one or add one].

Glad she lost. Just another whack-job lib trying to become a general in the FSA.

I was also gratified to see that virtually all of the FSA candidates in Bexar County lost. Big progress - but that only seems to happen in off-year elections. Don’t worry, I’ll take it.

Yea, a LOT smaller. Patrick won by 19.4%, Abbott won by 20.3%.

Gotta love the media for already trying to weaken him...but it will not work.

Her and Patrick actually get along quite well. She’s nothing like the Abortion Barbie.

Leticia needs to go back to pushing pills. She is NOT one of the good guys.

“its most conservative member”

Funny way to describe the guy who’s radio interview with Ted Cruz involved so much yelling (By Dan) that David Doworst used it in campaign commercials.

He is going to have to convince me he is anything more than an establishment republican who talks big.

Dan Patrick is definitely not establishment. He’s as conservative as they come.

He was also the one to first put Rush Limbaugh on the air in Houston back in the late 80’s.
