No Obama pivot after midterms (Obama "Defiant")
Politico ^ | 5 Nov 14 | CARRIE BUDOFF BROWN

Posted on 11/05/2014 2:52:23 AM PST by SkyPilot

Voters demanded change from Washington on Tuesday, and Republicans say it’s now up to President Barack Obama to deliver it.

But don’t count on that happening.

The White House that emerges after the midterm elections won’t look, act or sound drastically different than the one battered for months by Republicans and abandoned by Democrats desperate to hang onto power. The president will seek some common ground with Republicans, but there are limits to how far Obama wants to go — and Senate Democrats will let him go.

Despite losing the Senate, Obama doesn’t think too much should be read into election results from a handful of states that never approved of his job performance in the first place. Obama acknowledges that he needs to do better, and he will make modest adjustments to his staffing, messaging and legislative strategy in response. But he won’t pivot to the right, as he did after his self-proclaimed shellacking in 2010, White House officials said in interviews this week.

Obama will strike a tone of compromise and accountability during his public remarks Wednesday, promising to work with Republicans who are interested in working with him. He’s gone almost two years without a major legislative achievement, leaving him “very willing” to start cutting deals, a senior administration official said, possibly on trade, corporate taxes and patent reform. Still, this posture isn’t much different than the one he’s projected for years.

At the same time, Obama won’t back down from using his administrative powers, including plans to issue an executive order on immigration that could be the most aggressive unilateral action of his presidency.

“Obama will strike a tone of compromise and accountability during his public remarks Wednesday, promising to work with Republicans who are interested in working with him.”

smiling grimly

in other words, obama will “promise to work” with anyone who does what he wants- otherwise, he has a pen, even if no one answers the phone anymore.

predicted: Unilateral amnesty by Christmas. Single-handed “binding treaty” to resume trade with Iran. More tinkering with obamacare by edict while blaming the GOP for the increase in insurance bills now set to be unleashed. By Christmas.

Blaming the GOP for his mess for the next 2 years.
And maybe allowing honest numbers about unemployment and inflation to get folks mad at the GOP in time for the next election.

Hold on folks. Hillary's election depends on the democrats throwing this country into a recession or worse in the next year. In time to pin it on the GOP and run against the GOP controlled Congress

Obama? The guy is stalled at the psychological age of 14
The grownups have just taken over and told him to clean up his bedroom. His BFF ValJar is still stroking his motherless/fatherless head and telling him he is the man. Anyone here dealt with a snotty angry psych disturbed teenager?

Sure ya great plan...I’m almost certain the electorate handing the Republicans a silver platter were exactly stating ok now let begin impeachment knowing Damn good and we’ll the votes aren’t there for full removal...ya the electorate wants to watch Kabuki for 2 years only to have Senate flip back to Red when even more seats are up on our side in 16. Sure that’s the ticket. So Damn glad some condoning this in here are no where near governmental power of any kind.

Until Congress stops him, Obama has no reason to pull back. I seriously doubt McConnell or Boehner have it in them to stop him.

why should he do anything different? There is no veto proof majority so he can do whatever he wants.

Not defiant - petulant. He has the character of a spoiled six year old.

ValJar’s Stalinist obsession with keeping an enemies list will get a real work out. I’m betting she will cause a lot more damage to the USA before she is forced to turn over the keys to the WH.

At least we can breathe a bit lighter about the next 2 years with the USSC.

“At least we can breathe a bit lighter about the next 2 years with the USSC.”

Agreed! This is one of the major achievements of this election. We just have to make sure the Republicans don’t ‘compromise’ on some radical left USSC nominee - if there is an opening in the Court.

I heard somewhere when Hitler was holed up in his bunker in Berlin and was informed the Russians were closing in, his disdain for the German people was so great he ordered the subways to be flooded to drown the German civilians who were hunkered down there.

Any similarities.

I suggest President Obama have more pivots, and fewer divots, and head for the links where at least he can have his way.

People with severe Narcissistic Personality Disorder cannot handle rejection. Like Rush said, he will go full Mussolini. The vindictive little rat.

>>>Repeal the Healthcare Act immediately and impeach Obama. Do it now!

I really wish FReepers would come to some reality on this. YOU ARE NOT GOING TO REPEAL APA. It doesn't matter WHAT the senate and house do....Obama will veto it and simple point of FACT is the republicans will not have the votes to override the veto. So please....all of you...stop talking nonsense.

What the GOP has to do is target the most unpopular measures of ACA FIRST...where there may be enough dim votes to override a veto.

Work your way THROUGH ACA...dismantling it piece by unpopular piece. Trying to repeal it all at once is a futile effort and only serves one purpose: To keep the issue around as political fodder. That's stupid. The moderate voters want (and have always wanted) action...not rhetoric.

If you (or anyone) think for one second that the house and senate can pass a bill totally repealing ACA....PLEASE explain how that will work given Obama's veto pen. Share with us how we can drum up 11-12 dim senate votes and override a veto from a "defiant" president....one who is certainly not interested in signing a law that repeals his signature piece of work...

Riiiight, now McConnell and Boner can put their kneepads back on.

The new Congress should elect new leaders, not those lousy old geezers.

Apology to ‘old geezers’.

>> I fear that Obama would rather burn this country to the ground than accept that he is a failure and has been rejected. <

You are not alone in that fear Skypilot. This asshole pushes too far and people's wishes for a civil war may be realized.

Understand I hope it never comes to that. Many people have never seen the face of war close up and personal. If they had, they would not be wishing for it.
