NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Voters have approved a change to the Tennessee Constitution that would prohibit lawmakers from imposing a state income tax.
The last serious attempt to impose a state income tax failed in 2002 amid raucous Capitol protests that included a brick thrown through the window of the governor's office. The public backlash against the proposal led several supporters to retire from office or to lose their re-election campaigns.

good for them!
Let’s adopt that nationally.
Some leftist judge will strike it down though
AWESONE! I pray other states follow but I doubt it. Here in California Moonbeam just got his 4th term with the help of morons. A state income ban will never happen, I have a better chsnce of being strike by lighting.
Tonight was a good night for TN and America. Amendment 2 passed, but defeating that wasn’t as important as passing Amendments 1 and 3.
Now we need to find a way to run a successful primary against two of the worst RINOs in the Senate. Haslam’s a RINO, but is largely irrelevant because of the GOP supermajority in the legislature.
Any judge who attempts to strike down these amendments should enjoy being buried up to their necks in a fire-ant hill.
Beautiful. I remember the protests well.
This is what it takes to keep legislators and judges from moving the goalposts.
OH PRAISE THE GOOD DEAR LORD! I AM MOVING THERE FORTHWITH!
I believe it also undercuts Shelby County’s attempts to enact one as well. Or, I guess I hope it does.
OUTSTANDING!
NewsChannel5 is a liberal outlet. They are still peddaling the lie of a brick being thrown. First, it wasn’t the governors office - those windows are so thick and on the third floor.
Second, it was the door to the legislature plaza and was CLEARLY thrown from the inside...the glass was on the outside.
Third, it was Don “The Tax Terroist” Sundquist that tried to shove an unconstitutional income tax down our throats and he was a RINO!!! RINO RINO RINO!!!!
I was at those rallies downtown. I was a horn honker. The last time they tried to ram it down with a vote, Sundquist used the State Police (dressed in their brown shirts - not making this up) to line the streets (oh, that “brick” was a security breach thus we need more protection) WITH THEIR SHOT GUNS in from of families and children.
Don Sunquist needs to rot in hell and he was a so-called Republican. I don’t trust these a-holes like I don’t trust the Dems.
We gave them another 1994 and 2010 (and 1980 and 1984) this 2014. Now we have to hold them to it or GET RID OF THEM once and for all

boom shaka laka!
Nice. But, how long until some Fed/compliant judge strikes it down as ‘unconstitutional’ or some such?
We are escaping the lunacy in mexifornia for Tennessee next year.
Join us!
Our house there closed last Thursday! Can’t wait to escape the liberal Mecca of mexifornia.
and let’s balance the budget too
I was living in Tennessee during the ‘tax revolt’ against Governor ‘Taxquist’ and his ilk...good times...good times. Can’t wait to get back to the Volunteer State.
reread the part about the brick through the window.
