I loved that song. It came out when I was in seventh grade. I didn't see anything sexy in it at all at that age, of course.
I still think it's beautiful. It has one of the best-executed "psychedelic" sections of any of the songs of that amazing period, before the hippy movie turned ugly with riots, assassinations, serial killers, and the rest.
I see on the Wikipedia page for Spanky that the song came out in April 1968, which was just a few months before everything began to go south.
