WH: Army Ebola policy not needed for civilians
The Hill ^ | 28 Oct 14 | Justin Sink

The Army's decision to quarantine soldiers returning from West Africa is related to logistical concerns, meaning that the same protocols would not be appropriate for civilian doctors traveling back to the United States from the region, the White House said Tuesday.

"The science would not back that up," press secretary Josh Earnest said. "In fact, implementing this military policy in a civilian context would only have the effect of hindering our Ebola response by dissuading civilian doctors and nurses from traveling to West Africa to stop the outbreak in its tracks."

On Monday, the Army announced that soldiers returning from West Africa would be held in Italy for three weeks before they would be allowed to travel to bases in the United States or other parts of the world.

That raised new questions about Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines also announced Monday, which suggest that "high risk" individuals who came into direct contact with the bodily fluids of an Ebola patient should isolate themselves in their homes and avoid public transit. But returning health officials who wore protective gear should only regularly monitor themselves for symptoms of the disease and could travel freely under the CDC guidelines.

That appeared to contrast sharply with the Army policies, which mandated the three-week quarantine, even for soldiers who do not come into contact with Ebola patients.

But Earnest intimated the decision was logistical, not based in differing opinions on the capacity of the disease to spread. The White House said it was possible to do a "personal risk assessment" of doctors returning back from West Africa because only a few dozen were entering the United States each week.

ANY human vector that has come in contact (this defined as
being withing 10 feet of a patient, airspace around patient or items tainted with patient’s fluids), regardless whether they are civilian or military, should be quarantined.

The mortality rate on this is 70% if let beyond initial stages. It cannot be dickered with.

The WH as usual is a brown hut, full of shiite.

The military medical people have it right, just like they did at Gorgas Hospital with malaria discovery of the mosquito vector.

Happens when you spend most of the day high on dope. The dude’s eyes are very glazed and he is often quite “out of it” with inappropriate or nonsensical comments. There’s a real long one from the prior 4 years of obamaumao “uhm-ing” and “uhhhhhhhhh” in an incoherent jumble of ululations.

That POS and Lincoln? That’s irony for you. Better Lincoln had never been born.

Valuing the military? He only recognized them by his acts of revulsion.

The military is doing the right thing. If anything they are DEFYING Dear Leader on this. The White Hut tried to get DOD to remove the quarantine, and faced a revolt from the military.

obozo never does/says anything unless it benefits him & his plan to “fundamentally change this country.” Spreading Ebola in the US would benefit obozo. It would cause chaos & disaster for this country..and then obozo could take over and do his “magic” transformation. Aren't one or two of Alinsky’s “Rules for Radicals” being applied here?

obozo won't close the borders, won't protect the people of America from Ebola. obozo is diabolical & evil and I believe he would do whatever he can to fulfill his plans for this country. Let's all put our heads together and throw out some ideas as to how obozo benefits from this policy.....

I guess it will be a real bummer for him if the disease doesn’t follow The Plan and just kill white conservative males. Viruses have no ideology.

How is a soldier different from a doc or nurse?

The government orders soldiers around.
The government does not order docs and nurses around.

The quarantine is necessary or the soldiers wouldn’t need it. They just don’t have the political stones to do it to civilians. This does not make the doc and nurses less dangerous as carriers. It does make our government out to be feckless political hacks.

This administration should just put our military on chain gangs - that is how much they value them.

Actually, this is one of the best things that can be done, given that our troops have been ordered to Africa.

I think the wags in the Pentagon have figured out they won't have anyone to give orders to if Obie has his way, and they are doing what they can to keep the ones here safe.

Short of outright defying orders, this is the best they can do to limit broader exposure.

Someone should revive in the uniformed people’s memory- the
role of Typhoid Mary.... poor abused Mary infected thousands of the people who.... died.

Well, not thousands, but certainly 53. And she was asymptomatic and a carrier. Something our geniuses may be ignoring the presence of— in order to cover up politically. If it is possible then we are in some serious poooh.

From wikipedia:
Mary Mallon—
“The New York City Health Department finally sent Dr. Sara Josephine Baker to talk to Mallon. Baker stated “by that time she was convinced that the law was only persecuting her when she had done nothing wrong.” A few days later, Baker arrived at Mallon’s workplace with several police officers, who took her into custody.

Mary attracted so much media attention that in a 1908 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association she was called “typhoid Mary”. Later, in a textbook that defined typhoid fever, she was called “Typhoid Mary” with a capital “T”.

Mallon admitted poor hygiene, saying she did not understand the purpose of hand-washing because she did not pose a risk. In prison, she was forced to give stool and urine samples. Doctors found a major infection of typhoid bacteria in her gallbladder.”

Yep. You can get it from a soldier, but not from a civilian.

Not on a bus, though.

They should just make everyone ride on buses, and then no one can get ebola.

For what it is worth...we should not be sending our nurses and doctors to any Third World SH*t hole...West Africa needs to deal with this on their own...
