The second Dallas nurse infected with Ebola has been cured and plans to appear on Tuesday at a triumphant press conference at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.
The recovery of Amber Joy Vinson, who became infected with the virus while caring for Liberian patient Thomas Eric Duncan in a Dallas hospital, leaves only one person in America known to have an active case of Ebola.
That is Craig Spencer, the doctor who became feverish on Thursday in New York and was immediately transported to Bellevue Hospital. He remains isolated in what health officials have described as serious but stable condition. A boy with a fever tested negative for Ebola at the same hospital on Monday, but is being held for observation.
Duncan, who caught the virus in Liberia but became symptomatic only after arriving in the United States on Sept. 20, died on Oct. 8. Vinson and co-worker Nina Pham are so far the only two people known to have caught the virus from Duncan. Pham was also cured, and was released from an isolation unit at the National Institutes of Health on Friday.
Scores of other health workers in Dallas are still being monitored, as well as people who came into contact with Pham and Vinson. But Dallas officials believe that on Nov. 7 if no one develops symptoms of the disease they can declare their city Ebola-free.

“Nancy Snyderman”
Ick
She was told to take a month off after she passed her broken 21 day quarantine! I wonder if she’ll be back.
RE: And the cameraman who was working with Nancy Snyderman.
Ahh yes, Ashoka Mukpo, how could I forget?
That makes it 5-1 in our favor. Here’s hoping Dr. Spencer makes it 6-1. And here’s hoping we stop at that.
thanks, maybe once they see she continues to be excoriated over her arrogant behavior they will CAN her behind!
The bowling/jogging doctor is in very bad shape. He must have been walking around with symptoms because if he had gone into treatment within a day of having symptoms, I doubt he’d be struggling. Unless he had a compromised immune system already.
We also have a little boy in NYC who may have it.
RE: We also have a little boy in NYC who may have it.
If you’re talking about the Bronx 5 year old who exhibited Ebola like symptoms after returning from West Africa, he has been tested NEGATIVE.
SEE HERE:
That’s fine. I could not find the story this morning.
And we have no idea what would have happened in Duncan's case if he had had been correctly diagnosed the first time he went to the hospital, rather than four days later.
Dr. Bently also had a strange case. He was supposedly on death's door when he was given the super duper serum and in less than 60 minutes his rash had cleared and he was practically jumping on his bed which even CNN’s Dr. Gupta found hard to believe. These days, reports on his condition are anywhere from still recovering and weak to fully recovered and traveling around the country doing interviews. I still believe he put his wife and kids on the plane outta Dodge when he first had symptoms. The wife's sister all but spelled it out in her online posts.
Was she cured, or did she merely recover?
Writing that she was cured implies the existence of a sure-fire cure - i.e., a drug that cures Ebola.
Regards,
....”she is lawyered up... just heard that on the news”....
Just like the nurse from Main who was quick to get a top notch attorney.
Although in Amber’s case I can’t blame her with Duncans family suing the hospital, she’s going to need representation if they push the issues.
I'm also wondering if this ebola hits races differently because there are differences in how the body functions and what it's immune system is vulnerable to. There are certain issues , health wise, blacks face that are common among them. So would this make a difference in the treatment and the progression of Ebola??????
” massive medical intervention “
I read the ebola patients need 4.5 to 10 liters of hydration per day to survive. Think about that for a minute.
why’d she lawyer up?
If the wedding dress store, where she and her bridesmaids tried on dresses supposedly the Saturday she admits being symptomatic, has to destroy all her inventory, the owner will be looking to get recompense.
Among others.
RE: whyd she lawyer up?
Everybody does it just in case. America is one of the most litigious societies in the world and we probably have more lawyers per capita than any other country.
Can you imagine the amount of puke and poop you have to be shedding in order to re-hydrate that much? Duncan must have been a damn water hose at both ends. Too bad HIPPA prevents nurses from YouTubing the last hours of an ebola victim....might actually make Obama and the "elites" get off the golf course and take this thing seriesly.
I could be wrong but I don’t think you need whole blood for these transfusion. It the platelets that are needed.
From https://microbewiki.kenyon.edu/index.php/Infection_Mechanism_of_Genus_Ebolavirus
By the second week of the infection, the patient will either experience a full recovery or undergo systemic multiorgan failure.
It's an either-or disease, either you develop antibodies and recover or you don't and die. There are some in-between situations and also intensive care can help.
This same situation happens in Africa as well, survivors having a week of bad symptoms but then recovering in a week with not lasting damage. But Africans with poor or no care can have lasting damage. Americans too, but it will be more rare here.
Correct. The nurse could have almost as easily died as recovered. It is up to each individual patient whether they develop antibodies or not.
