When I moved to Indiana, I registered when I got my driver’s license and plates. To get the licenses, I had to provide various forms of ID: photo ID (my Illinois license), plus my birth certificate and proof of residence (recent utility bill). I brought my passport for good measure. I didn’t think about registering to vote when I went in there, and the guy there only offered it when all the other business was finished. I felt good that they had positively ID’ed me for the licenses, and if they have the same document requirements when people just register to vote, then they have a pretty good system on the front end. I have not voted here yet, so I don’t know if they require ID at the polling place.
Glad they wanted a BC for a DL, even though you already had a DL from out of state. I don’t think that’s always the case. Your IN DL is effective proof of citizenship.
Yet, an illegal alien would not have had to show anything to get that same license you had to show identification for.
I kid you not. I watched an illegal alien get a Colorado driver’s license without any proof of identity. He also registered to vote. The joke was on him and the DMV personnel as I was friends with their boss and reported the event. Seems it happens all the time.
