Within hours of the mass killing Friday at Marysville-Pilchuck High School in Washington State, a number of gun control groups and lawmakers were quick to make statements calling for action including increased regulation.
Some of these national groups, such as Everytown for Gun Safety, have invested heavily to the tune of nearly $2 million into a ballot initiative in the state, I-594, to expand background checks to include almost all gun sales. Everytown was joined in its call to action by the Washington Alliance for Gun Responsibility (WAGR), the direct sponsor of the measure. To those voices were added members of Congress from the other side of the country who called for a return of the federal assault weapon ban as well as increased background checks.

"#3: DONT ASSUME THE FACTS AND DONT WAIT FOR THEM. Its appropriate to open with an expression of concern for the victims and their families. No family should ever have to go through what the families of these victims are going through right now. Our hearts go out to them. However, all too often, such expressions of sympathy are followed by a but statement. (But, the real issue here is . . . But, what we have to focus on is . . .But, what I want to draw your attention to is . . . etc.) That has two negative consequences. The but makes the expression of concern seem less heartfelt and more like something we had to get out of the way before getting to what we really wanted to say. But can be read as a way for the speaker to say I didnt really mean what I just said. And, the but breaks the link between the violence people are shocked by and the next thing were about to say. Our goal is to establish that link, not break it. So, we need to use language where our message flows from the expression of concern into our broader argument. It cant be an abrupt pivot. In these situations, expressions such as look, actually, and thats why work a lot better than but. Losing a child, a mother or a husband is every familys worst nightmare. Thats why we have to tell our political leaders we wont wait for the next tragedy before they act to prevent the gun violence thats tearing peoples lives apart. Experience tells us that the specific facts of a high-profile gun incident are revealed over time. If we jump to conclusions about those details, we could find ourselves at odds with reality as events unfold. So, the smartest thing to do is avoid linking our message and arguments to any one set of partially-revealed facts. We shouldnt assume the facts. But, we also shouldnt argue ourselves into inaction while we await clarity about details. The clearest course is to advance our core message about preventing gun violence independent of facts that may shift on us over time. (While we dont know the specifics of this tragedy, we know far too many people are killed by weak gun laws in this country.) Of course, once a fact is clearly established, it makes sense to rely on it to advance your case.
"Don't wait for them." The facts. Facts have no place in their desire to bully law abiding citizens.
Seattle King County and Tacoma Pierce County Election Offices pretty much rule the roost.
But low turnout could sink the billionaire’s club bid to foist gun control on the Washington State citizenry.
Do these arrogant and selfish people want the general population to be defenseless against the ISIS “lone wolf” terrorist acts that we can expect in the future?
Um, yes. You and I both know that only the govt can protect us. Right? :>} Guess I ain’t a “team” player when it comes to that.
Almost all of Washington State now votes exclusively via mail-in ballots, which are the easiest to mess with. Just as the news of the shooting hit, the mail-in ballots arrived at every voter’s mail-box. Add to that all the crisis drills being run at the same time, and it’s hard not to see the agenda in action.
Fantasy Island population centers sure can screw with the (s)elections.
Washington/California they call them the Left Coast for many reasons.
Don’t forget Oregone.
Gun control is, as conservatives well know, a ploy to disarm Americans so that the fundamental change of the United States can proceed.
See “Rocky Mountain Heist” which opens all eyes to what’s going on.
Members of the Billionaire’s Club need to be incarcerated, subjected to a quick trial and led to the Gallows where they shall be hung by their necks until they are dead.
