I get the power of hype (and demographic changes broadly) but why is it that so many people seem to be cedeing to the "fact" that Wendy Davis' campaign is somehow changing the face of Texas?
I mean right now RCP averages have her down by 14.2% which is including the Lyceum poll which has been discredited by other pollsters. It also does not show the fact that the more recent polls have her falling even further behind (one pull currently has her 20% behind Abbott). But let's be conservative and say she is currently 15% behind Abbott. I've already seen some on the left claim that if this is the margin of victory, it is some huge success for progressives in Texas. But how?
5% is pathetic when you compare to prior gubernatorial elections. If you look at the percentage margin in every race for TX governor since 1978 (and their respective parties), you find the following:
1978: 0.8% GOP (Clements) 1982: 7.3% Dem (White) 1986: 6.7% GOP (Clements) 1990: 2.6% Dem (Richards) 1994: 7.6% GOP (Bush) 1998: 37% GOP (Bush) 2002: 17.8% GOP (Perry) 2006: 9.2% GOP (Perry) 2010: 12.7% GOP (Perry)
So 15% (and it is likely going to be closer to 20%) would seem to indicate (other than in 1998 or 2002) she is one of the weakest candidates put up by the Democrats for governor in at least 36 years......
Which is a rare event ans says a lot about the mother
It is also her ex-husband who asked a Texas District Court to issue a temporary restraining order against Wendy Davis in 2003.In that order, the judge ordered that Wendy Davis be immediately restrained from . . . using illegal drugs or consuming alcohol within 24 hours before or during the period of possession of or access to the child.Speaking of the child, at the time her daughter requested her father serve as her managing conservator.
America is officially over Wendy Davis
