Army Green Berets reportedly criticize performance of Afghan army troops

Elite Army troops have disparaged the fighting capability of Afghan troops to military investigators probing the deaths of five soldiers in a friendly fire incident earlier this year, according to a published report.

The Washington Times claims that several Green Berets have described how Afghan soldiers have refused to fight and hidden among trees and behind rocks when coming under fire. The criticisms came to light on the same day that the last unit of U.S. Marines in Afghanistan concluded its combat mission, handing the base known as Camp Leatherneck to Afghan troops.

The comments by the Green Berets were made to investigators from U.S. Central Command during discussions of an incident from this past June, when five U.S. soldiers and an Afghan sergeant were killed when a B-1 bomber mistakenly dropped two bombs on their position during a battle against Taliban forces in southern Afghanistan.

Same thing in Iraq. The typical male Arab response when confronted with danger is one of cowardice.

I wonder how we would have been evaluated in 1777 about the same time frame that the Afghan troops have been installed. Our military began mostly in 1775 and I can’t imagine that they were the same as 2014. Come back in 200 years and see how the Afghani military performs.

Nothing new here. I'm old enough to remember when:

American GIs thought the Germans were good fighers, but despised the Brits;

American troops in Korea thought their Korean allies were lousy fighters;

American troops in Vietnam thought the VC were good fighters but the Army of the Republic of Vietnam was a bunch of losers.

I'm not surprised to read this. American troops tend to admire their enemies and look down on their allies. They can see the problems with their allies; all they can see of the enemy is a fight.

Our Militias back then were extremely courageous with the poor means they had. Heck, today’s US Army is a bunch of panzies compared to back then.

Another “leaked story”-

To put our Military in jeapordy!

Think ANY Afghanis will trust our soldiers?
hey maybe a few more - turncoat attacks!

Taking illiterate Afghanis - and trying to make them
a cohesive fighting force - is not accomplished in
days,weeks, or even years- and since this Administration
has already abandoned them- what are they supposed to do?

Rules of engagement?

No, the Arab can fight as well as anyone, the issue is leadership!

They know their leaders will flee first.

Try avoiding duty while deployed because you have to finish your college classes. Rule of engagement as in encouraged desertion and getting your buddies killed, Bergdhal style.

This is old news. If you have any friends & family in the military, stories like these have been circulating for years.

The general feeling is that while there were some good, well-meaning, brave, trainable Afghani’s, the vast majority were either cowards, in it for the money, in it for a US visa, completely indifferent to the fight or downright hostile to foreign troops and looking to inflict damage.

The stories I heard from those who had been over there made me utterly shocked that there weren’t considerably more situations where one of the locals ‘went bad’.
