Three pioneering women in Marine infantry course are asked to leave. Why?

Just weeks after three women passed a rigorous day-long test qualifying them to potentially lead US Marine infantrymen for the first time in history, news came that all three women have been asked to leave the course.

They were physically disqualified from the training last week for falling behind in hikes while carrying loads of upwards of 100 pounds, says Maj. George Flynn, director of the Infantry Officers Course (IOC) at Quantico, Va.

........well, shame on ya!.............you forget that the enemy will give a woman marine a “time out”.............s/

After that “he” will let “her” find “her” men in her unit! Then, he will let her start shooting!

Jeez, the stupidity of all this just boggles the mind!

Maybe they were inconvenienced like the nurse who didn’t like being quarantined.

As a woman, I have no problem with this. None at all.

Unless they can do it.

What percent is that? For men, it would probably be 80% - 90% that could make it...For women, are we talking 40% - 50%, 20% - 30%, 5% - 15%...at some point, economies of scale have to kick in...do we spend 80% of the training dollar on the 20% of women who MIGHT qualify?

"Re Joe Biden. This one always gets me. Given the choice between keeping Obama in place or impeaching Obama and letting Biden finish out his term seems a no brainer. Biden may have flaws but I seriously doubt anyone questions his loyalty to America. Who would you trust in the White House: Obama or Biden. On that question, who here would choose Obama?"

How long would Joe Biden last as President before a 25th Amendment medical evaluation would be ordered?

#3 in the line of Succession is "crier" John Boehner.

Does his persona scream "leader" to you?

Could you expect men and women of our armed forces to provide the most of their being in support of a combat order from that individual, above and beyond from the requirements of the military code? (Circumstances aside, I'm not sure that I would).

....Well sir, with all due respect 62,614 “squids” were killed or missing in WWII.

conversely, 24,511 “jarheads” were killed or missing.

I’m not taking anything away from Marines and yes they get up close and personal with the enemy and have mine and most of America’s Total Respect! On the other hand, Google the USS Indianapolis and think about the Arizona that I was just on 2 weeks ago.

I’m sure you can appreciate that I have to defend my branch of service too. To be clear, I was a Vietnam era “squid”. And, obviously you don’t want women in combat and I agree with you as long as we simultaneously recognize that many jobs in the services can and have been honorably served by women over the centuries.

My facts came from Wiki.

While I was in the Navy, not the Marines, I do think they need to give this more consideration, especially if the pace is not regulated and most everyone failed. Moving the goal posts to create failures is just as bad as moving them to create passes. At the end of the day the Marines, like all services, need to find ways to bring women into combat, to respect that they can and should be equal participants, that they have different physical limits. Besides, does EVERYONE need to carry a 124 pound backpack?! Is that what we really want selection of officers based on?

______________

You are joking, aren’t you?

Wortmann is the CO of the Basic School, IOC isn’t the Basic School.

As a former infantry officer (Army, not Marines) yes, it’s relevant.

You’re leading a patrol of 30 soldiers. Due to terrain, vehicles aren’t an option and you can’t fly in due to weather. You’re going to be out for, say, four days.

50 pounds worth of weapon and ammo is normal. Add another 30 pounds in radios and batteries and 10 more pounds in night vision and assorted extra stuff that leaders carry. Your body armor is 10 pounds. Top it off with 8 pounds of water, and 10 pounds of helmet, boots, and uniform. You’re pushing 120 pounds of gear.

It’s 9 miles to your objective. You have to leave at sunset at 7:00pm but must be in position before moonrise at 10:00pm to avoid detection.

This is a VERY typical infantry mission. Yeah, it’s relevant.

I don’t know. Today I’m reading that almost 3/4 of our young men are unfit for duty. Pathetic, really.

Exactly correct. We’re on a very mad path, where PCness trumps reality. On the battlefield, reality will trump PC.

What many people forget is that what you were when you were committed to combat is not what you come out.

I served my first tour in VN in 1965-1967, I went in at 165# and left at 135#, baby fat, I went from a 32 inch waste to a 29 inch waste.

There is more involved than humping a 125# in training.

100lbs. is close to 100% of a female’s body weight. I’m no physiologist, but I can’t imagine there would be that many females able to carry that amount of weight for extended periods of time, let alone in the mountains of afcrapistan...

You are missing the big point. The Nobel Prize winner doesn’t want his troops to win battles. We can’t have them shooting at people.
