In Mississippi you can always write in but they aren’t counted but they do show in the numbers and are evidence of a NO vote. If they are enough of them it is apparent to the party officials. In one election I wrote in the name of a Republican lawyer in a race where a democrat was uncontested for a district DA position. I later heard the Republican Executive Committee Chairman mention that the lawyer had received a write in vote.
