Oh, the cockles of many establishment Republican hearts were warmed this week by CNBCs report that ex-Florida Gov. Jeb Bush looks very much like hes running for president. One could almost hear the purring of those anticipating their next Plum Book job.
But stories about Jeb Bush give my insides a very different feeling: One of sinking. One of disappointment.
Its not that I think this Bush would make a bad president; I actually think hed make a very good one.
Its just that, come on, this is America. And when one family or a handful of families appears over and over at the top of the government, things start looking and feeling a lot more like an aristocracy than a representative republic.

Oh, yeah, in Spanish.
As a democrat, presumably. ‘Cause he ain’t no republican, and he damned sure ain’t conservative!
No, non, nein, nyet, effdat.
Texans can vote against Jebbie for President in 2014 by leaving blank the office of land commissioner on November 4.
Don’t forget to leave blank on November 4 the race for TX land commissioner.
No more Kennedys!
No more Clintons!
No more Bushes!
AND definitely NO MORE OBOLAS!!!
I will not donate to Bush’s campaign, nor will I work to support it. The GOP needs to go for quality not name recognition if it wants my support. I will pray that Hillary will lose, if we are unlucky enough to face her as a potential ruler of what is supposed to again become a free country, but I will not actively support Bush, Romney, Rubio, or Christie.
My impression is Jeb is more liberal than George. I’d rather have Mitt.
The one I would like to hear more about is Jeb’s son, and, I cannot think of his name.
“I wont stay home, but I will not vote for any GOPe pols. I wont vote for any Dims. I just wont vote in the races with GOPe pols in them.”
In Mississippi you can always write in but they aren’t counted but they do show in the numbers and are evidence of a NO vote. If they are enough of them it is apparent to the party officials. In one election I wrote in the name of a Republican lawyer in a race where a democrat was uncontested for a district DA position. I later heard the Republican Executive Committee Chairman mention that the lawyer had received a write in vote.
Great idea.
Bush family, get over yourselves! Don’t do this to us!!!

Lol. It’s george.
Probably. What's at root here may be the idea that Jeb was more qualified than his brother and had a steadier temperament and more dedication -- that he was the one who should have run. The rumor was that Poppa Bush thought so.
It's a debatable point. It may just mean that Jeb would have been more acceptable to the establishment.
And the discussion is a bit like people arguing over which Kennedy brother would have made the best president when one doesn't think any of them as that great.
At this point though, Jeb seems quite tired. Whatever focus and energy he may have had dissipated over time.
I don’t doubt that Jeb would have been better President than GWB (LOW bar) - but regardless, he’s an awful prospect now.
