Transgender military personnel from a number of American allied countries met in Washington, D.C. this week to discuss what they say are the benefits of allowing open transgenders in active military service.
Organized by the American Civil Liberties Union, the conference met in the nation’s Capitol to continue pressure on the Pentagon to allow open transgenders to serve in the U.S. military.
Advocates and many in the medical and scientific field believe that people are not born with a specific gender but are assigned one at birth, but that assignment may not match up to the person’s “gender identity” such that a man may believe he is really a woman and vice versa.

I knew “gays” in the military, they’ve been there since we lived in caves. The ones I knew didn’t throw it in your face, they just did their jobs and went off post for recreation or whatever. I’ll bet most of the people here who served in the armed forces knew a few, also.
You’ve GOT to look at the pictures of the participants of this event on the ACLU site linked to in the Breitbart article. It lends credence to the old adage:

I can’t imagine a group more mentally and emotionally messesd up. Transgenders lead the pack in psychological problems, suicides and no doubt will become victims of perceived discriminatory treatment.

There are a lot of unknowns, and of course we don’t know how accurate the telling of the story was. As a kid I accepted blindly a lot more than I should have. Perhaps you were more aware. I sometimes wasn’t.
The same concerns you have, I would harbor. Not doubt about it.

Hey, you were a kid. You expect people to be honest and guess what, some people aren’t. As an adult, I try to tell the truth. Not everyone operates that way.
I remember one time concerning a issue that was rather important, someone in my family inner circle said something that I accepted as truth. Decades later I mentioned it to them, and they denied ever having said it, or suggested they said it in jest.
It bothered me quite a bit because it was a betrayal of sorts.
I don’t believe in lying to kids. You do take their age into consideration and sanitize things, but you don’t make it up as you go.
