Nurse Amber Vinson free of Ebola virus, family says

Barely a week after being diagnosed with Ebola, Texas nurse Amber Vinson is free of the deadly virus, her family said on Wednesday night.

“We are overjoyed to announce that, as of [Tuesday] evening, officials at Emory University Hospital and the Centers for Disease Control are no longer able to detect virus in her body,” read a statement from a family spokesperson.

Jason McDonald, a CDC spokesperson, told Yahoo News late Wednesday that he was not aware of Vinson's recovery.

“Healthcare provider will determine by diagnostic whether a patient is free of Ebola virus,” McDonald said in an email. “We have criteria we ask medical staff to meet but the determination is made by medical care provider.”

OK, what the hell? This was pretty fast, unless someone has their wires crossed. So either this Ebola strain is fairly weak in transmission from the African to others in this country or this nurse has some superior immune system.

This sounds very odd.

By surviving, Amber has proven Jesse wrong (again).

Agreed. Her treatment started farther on than Pham’s, yet Pham has not been declared Ebola free. Pham even had a transfusion from the cured doc. This does not bode well for Pham?

The current test, or the prior one?

She got that blood from the other person to survive.

That may have been the real difference.

It would be interesting to study what her treatments consisted of. I’m sure the medical profession will benefit from things learned.

Perhaps this is the real key to a cure in Africa. Use the blood of survivors. (of course that’s accepting this was the key to Amber’s recovery)

Glad she will make it through. Now revoke her nursing license RFN!

Maybe at some point, maybe soon, a serum will be figured out that doesn’t have to be cultivated (so to speak) by humans. Maybe pigs or dogs, who generally will not die of the disease.

0r it could just be that she was one of those 30% who survive on their own, and the transfusion just speeded things along.

CDC: Please, please! This is supposed to be a happy occasion! Let's not bicker and argue about who infected who.

Gonna be hard to do if the CDC did in fact tell her to get on the plane. Government hotlines hand out incorrect information close to half the time. Has happened to me.

I understand, but I’m not a nurse, and not a medical professional, but if I was in direct contact with a confirmed ebola patient at the dangerous endstage of the disease, I don’t care what anyone told me, I’m not getting on a plane, train, cruise ship. Hell, I may not even go HOME....and put myself up in a hotel or ask to use a hospital room for 21 days. She’s an idiot. I would refuse treatment from her if she walked in my room to do so much as take the trash out.

Perhaps so, but that’s way above my speculation pay grade. :^)
