The reality in Canada is about as follows:

We have a relatively conservative government. They move very incrementally because we also have a powerful entrenched cultural elite, a sort of state within a state, that cannot easily be removed (well maybe it could, nobody has tried just going into their offices and moving them).

It is that entrenched cultural elite and not the elected government that launched the lawsuits against Mark Steyn and (less publicized in America) parallel lawfare against a large number of (us) conservative bloggers.

Action continues in the courts, but the Mark Steyn hearing was rather quickly tossed by none other than the left-leaning B.C. Human Rights Tribunal. Even they wanted nothing to do with this essentially Ottawa-based legal cartel of radical Islam and far-left activists. When they sensed what might follow in terms of public backlash, they backed down (this was also quite some time ago, in 2008).

So what we have going on here is basically the same politics you have, minus the stricter protections of the First Amendment, and with far fewer armed citizens. Yet we also have somewhat different traditions about civil liberties, once a group crosses a line, as with Quebec separatists, they can actually find themselves in more trouble than dissident groups in the U.S.A. — think Black Panthers as a comparison.

Once we are roused up here, we tend to fight back hard and not very much with words. Our local Islamist ass-hats are about to find out that what they heard from our cultural elites is not what most of us think.

Whatever. You should post such garbage in “Chat”.. and
not pretend variants of topics legitimizes the garbage.

“STFU if you don’t have anything to add to it.”

Oh, my. We’re a bit pissy about defending our garbage, aren’t we?

“The RCMP are secret police. Really. “

How secret can you be in a red coat on top of a horse? ;)

“It is politically incorrect to state but Islamic culture is not compatible with the values, practices, scientific and social advances that constitute modernity. These jihadists are bewildered brutal reactionaries fighting to reestablish the values and customs of the 11th century. American political leaders are too timid to even to define the problem.”

Not only political leaders. Hearing radio talkshow hosts and Fox News talking heads rationalize oh-so-carefully about the difference between ‘radicalized’ and ‘moderate’ muzzies prior to making any comment about Islamists makes me crazy. We must walk on eggshells and tip toe thru the tulips about these psychotic savages. It’s going to get a lot of people killed. This kind of insanity must have a point of no return. How much sadistic crap does it take to make a nation realize it’s time to kick ass?

2/24/2014 - FR: Free Dominion Shut Down by Lawfare

The conservative website, Free Dominion, has shut down after a long legal battle with censorship champion lawyer Richard Warman. Warman gained notoriety for his attacks on conservative sites by using the "hate speech" law in Canada (the Canadian Human Rights Commission) to censor speech he disagreed with. He was essentially the only person using the law and the process. The CHRC became his personal tool of repression. He had considerable success, though the CHRC has since been reformed by parliament as a result.

RE post 21. I agree with you. The authorities in Canada can be quick in sweeping aside civil liberties if they think the state is threatened.

I don't know if Harper is ready to act yet. Hopefully the security forces are making lists of prospective detainees. Maybe they are waiting until Friday to get them all in one place.

5.) Our political correctness and tolerance have lead to lazy thinking towards the Cult of Death and how to deal with them. The answer for both countries is to eliminate immigration of Muslims and to deal with those Muslims that are legally within our borders in an appropriate manner.

This problem is occurring because ISIS is still allowed their base of operations in the middle east. They become a symbol for what I term on-the-fence jihadists. These are people with extreme views on waging jihad but aren't quite sure when the best time to do it is. When ISIS is allowed to run rough shod over portions of the middle east the on-the-fencers take this as a sign from Allah that the time for jihad is now. ISIS also foments this view on social media.

The more we tolerate the concept of jihad the more it has the potential to grow beyond ignorant religious zealots and validate any psychopath who wants to go on a killing spree. What better way to rationalize than to say I have my own personal jihad against the world so why shouldn't I kill people?

Ted Baxter is almost always clueless. They should put Hannity on at 8PM and move Ted to afternoon and special assignments like they did to Shep.

“The red coats are not their regular uniform. Those are worn only on state and special occasions. Their regular uniform is - well - like a typical police uniform.”

The red coats and horses are not their regular uniform and mode of transportation. Haven’t been for well over a century. They wear the red coats for ceremonial and state occasions. Their uniforms are typical police uniforms, dark blue and the move from one place to another in cars, like any other police force.
