What I Have Learned From Debating Young Liberals

In the recent months, I have been engaged in political debates with liberals mostly under the age of 40 (I am over the age of 40). These debates have taken place in person, via email and political discussion blogs. In each occurrence, I was contacted or confronted by the individuals who wanted to engage in discussions with me. I was personally contacted and invited to participate in discussions on a blog that repost some of my articles. However, after each round of discussions, I am saddened with the realization that our great country is in deep trouble if today’s young liberals are America’s future.

Just following along the path of the progs/libs/socialists/commies/dhimmiokkkrats of the 60's. My apologies for my generation becoming what it did. Not all boomers are mindless dunces. Just too many of the plscd's saw a path to controlling (or at least trying to) us early on and acted on it while a lot of us went to work doing actual jobs.

Let me guess what she learned. Her head hurt less after banging it against a brick wall.

Every issue that is discussed is based on the false premise that every negative thing that happened in past (slavery, Jim Crow, The Southern Strategy) is influencing everything that is happing in the present

All the while not being taught that it was the DemocRAT Party that was behind just about everything they are taught to hate.

Not all, but far too many get their “news” from biased sources (i.e. the Daily Show), and lack critical-thinking skills.

I’m surprised the author didn’t stumble upon the obvious during her conversations with these young liberals. The heavy use of marijuana by this generation of liberal, leftist Democrats has made them dumber than dirt.

Trying to teach a liberal to be conscientious, hardworking, patriotic, America loving, tax paying, and a productive member of a civil society is like trying to teach a pig to sing.

It wastes your time, and it annoys the pig.

“All the while not being taught that it was the DemocRAT Party that was behind just about everything they are taught to hate.”

So true. It’s a marvel of mental engineering that has occurred.

The most disheartening thing that I have learned about liberal young adults is they lack breadth on the issues that they claim to be well informed on. The liberal media and universities are to blame for this. These individuals only learn liberal talking points. When they are presented with facts that destroy the narrative, they just move on to the next talking point without even acknowledging the facts or they start attacking you.

SO FREAKIN’ TRUE! You can pound their heads into walls of facts and they keep bleating talking points as they bleed to death.

Our current public education system is the equivalent of The Empire State building built with Legos.

When they are presented with facts that destroy the narrative, they just move on to the next talking point without even acknowledging the facts or they start attacking you.

There's a reason for this. And it's in the core goals of being "liberal" - to justify the lie "I'm a good person".

The "narrative" supports "I'm a good person" for believing it.
Any facts or reasoning that refutes the narrative is an attack on "I'm a good person". THAT'S why they either ignore it or get very angry at you.

Liberals don’t engage in critical thinking nor are they interested in a constructive exchange of ideas; they only emote. If you present them with hard facts that contradict their view, they will “escape” by immediately going off on a tangent that goes right back to another emotional argument.

Liberals are sanctimonious, and for the most part elitists at heart (i.e., they want to tell everyone else how to live). They are also fundamentally insecure which is one of the main reasons they always argue for expansive government, which they see as a guardian who will take care of them and protect them against the “evil designs” of independent minded and self-sufficient people.

There is no such thing as winning an argument against a liberal. They are true believers in the good intentions and benevolence of big government. There is no convincing them otherwise even when presented with hard facts to the contrary.

Liberals are unable to form a sense of self that is not a reflection of themselves in the reactions of others. They are OTHER DIRECTED instead of self directed. This is a form of infantile narcisism or adolescent solopsism- only my perceptions are reality. Add to the mix a hyper empathy and you end up with an ego structure that will identify with the plight of victims because their ego structure is trapped in the frustrations and helplessness of infancy and childhood, i.e., they never grew up able to incorporate the needs of reality. Rather they are overwhelmed by reality and pander to the needs of their imagination from a sense of powerlessness, becoming pathologally dependent upon a group identification to bolster their frail ego structures. As “non conformists” they conform to a frightening number of rigid belief systems and their reactions are as predictable as Pavlov’s dog.

It bothers me that conservative analysts hammer liberals on their social behavior with little insight or comment on the PSYCHOLOGICAL underpinnings of the liberal pathology- weak ego structure, chronic sense of vulnerability, need for immediate gratification, delusions of persecution, a reliance on fantasy as a substitute for thumb sucking, and an inability to perceive themselves in what they hate or see contradictions in their behavior, for example, their hatred of haters, and so on.

Conservatives have their weaknesses too and suffer from cartoon versions of human psychology that are usually nothing more than sound bite cliches making them as vulnerable to demonizing what they perceive as “evil” as the liberals are. This inability to analyze psychological structures, and those structures’ formation and evolution into adulthood, in depth at an intellectual level, is not helping conservatives to find remedy to their own shortcomings.
