Why AP isn’t moving stories for every suspected Ebola case
Poynter ^ | Oct. 17, 2014 | Kristen Hare

On Friday, the Associated Press posted an advisory to editors about suspected cases of Ebola, which they’re hearing of more and more.

“The AP has exercised caution in reporting these cases and will continue to do so,” the advisory reads.

Here’s the rest:

Most of these suspected cases turn out to be negative. Our bureaus monitor them, but we have not been moving stories or imagery simply because a doctor suspects Ebola and routine precautions are taken while the patient is tested. To report such a case, we look for a solid source saying Ebola is suspected and some sense the case has caused serious disruption or reaction. Are buildings being closed and substantial numbers of people being evacuated or isolated? Is a plane being diverted? Is the suspected case closely related to another, confirmed Ebola case?

When we do report a suspected case, we will seek to keep our stories brief and in perspective.

Now in the US it takes 2 to 3 weeks to diagnose a case of Ebola. Until after the election.

Amazing, isn't it?

The narrative is that only crazy people are worried about Ebola but Obama is taking extra precautions to protect Americans from this terrible disease that shouldn’t concern us at all.

How long does it take to diagnose a case of Ebola?

It takes 2-21 days for the first symptoms to appear (98% of the time - on rare occasions, it's over 21 days, but CDC ignores that in their protocols and in their model). From the first symptoms, it takes 1-4 days for the initial low fever to reach 103 degrees F, and often 1-3 days after fever hits 103 degrees F before ELISA and PCR tests can confirm the diagnosis.

Damage control is in full swing under the guidance of the new “Ebola Czar”. His entire strategy for dealing with Ebola will be politicized and spun in favor of King Obama’s agenda, and will have absolutely nothing to do with infectious disease control.

Locking down the Ebola information will cause more harm to the public and will further spread the disease. Those are the two top priorities for the Obama administrations.

And they intend to be: Bill Ayers, the domestic terrorist, is Zero’s best friend. Bill once wrote and supported that 10% of the population needed to be killed for a communist revolution to take place.

Though it is undeniably happening. It started the minute that aparachik took the reins. We are not getting anything. New cases, suspected cases, conditions of existing cases. Just a bit of BS propaganda like No New Cases for Five Days.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

From exposure to symptomatic: up to 42 days, but 95% of cases within 21 days.
