A patient who was transported to Emory University Hospital on Sept. 9 with Ebola virus disease was discharged from the hospital on Oct. 19, 2014. In coordination with the CDC and Georgia Department of Public Health, the patient was determined to be free of virus and to pose no public health threat. The patient has asked to remain anonymous and left the hospital for an undisclosed location. He will make a statement at a later date.

Obviously racism saved him.
I am confused - he wanted to remain anonymous, which I get. Does this mean that the other victims actually wanted their names out there? Did they also not prefer to remain anonymous? This seems odd to me.
He wanted to remain anonymous because of lawsuits. People and lawyers love to sue....
The first two were known as soon as they knew they had Ebola because they were a part of a missionary organization that asked for prayers on their behalf.
Wonder if they checked his semen. Will he refrain from sex for ninety days?
I was thinking more of the two nurses. I would want to remain anonymous, and wondered if they had that option.
Yup. And I assume the identities of the folks in Dallas were released for public health purposes (to help with contact tracing, etc), as HIPAA has some public health exceptions.
If this third patient was transported here for treatment, straight from the hot zone to Emory, and has no public contact, then there would be no public health reason to disclose the identity, so the HIPAA privacy rule would apply.
Hidden cases of ebola - and the news coming out after the election? It could happen.
Laws were changed during the AIDS years... to protect the privacy of gays. This disease could be hidden under those laws.
Someone needs to ask the CDC if they're allowed to hold Ebola information (numbers of cases) confidential. And not just the person's name...
Maybe that’s why he wants to stay nameless.
I’ve heard through personal contacts there were two suspected cases here in tampa. Both turned out negative but you never heard anything in the news.
I would hope not. Not everyone is of low moral character but one wonders nowadays. If he were to infect a prostitute or even a girlfriend or wife the Ebola situation could go bad quickly.
Someone with a fatal disease (to the 90% who aren’t immune via the delta-32 or some such mutation) does not have a right to privacy when they can walk in a bar and solicit sex, not required to tell them that they have the disease.

Thanks for the ping!
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
