Looks like they brought in an out of town retired prosecutor:

“Retired St. Clair District Attorney Van Davis”

This is just more democrat dirty tricks. Luther Strange, Republican AG recused himself. Certainly he won’t have to worry about Hubbard getting in his way in the next Governor’s race. Not saying he had anything to do with this but he is a possible beneficiary.

No, I’m on this story. Hubbard is middle-of-the-road Republican. He is neither TEA or GOPe.

I do think he might have had his hand in the cookie jar. I do believe it is NOT the democrats charging him, though. They do not have any power in this state any longer, period.

AND... Doesn’t matter that he’s a Republican, the driveby media can harp on that all they want, because bottom line, EVERYBODY is a Republican in Alabama except for blacks, who are 26% of the population, and are almost all democrat.

Oh, the county, Lee, is home to Auburn University, where I work. The county is 74% white, 22% black, others 4%. Some liberal professors no doubt vote democrat, but still the county is run by Republicans mostly.

Exactly: I can only hope Abbott indicts and jails the mayor of Houston and the Houston city attorneys who have fraudulently de-certified a ballot petition and then used the subpoena power to intimidate political opponents in Houston.

They should all be jailed for fraud and civil rights violations.

“FWIW, the Attorney General, who requested the Grand Jury, is a Republican. If it’s a witch hunt, it appears to be an intra-party one.”

Yes, Luther Strange, a Republican, started the investigation a year ago but later recused himself. Strange seems to be a straight shooter to me and must have uncovered something. But we need more facts.

Sure it could be pure politics .. or it could be just that Strange has zero tolerance for anything close to corruption and Hubbard got caught up in it. The prosecution will have to prove all those counts. However there are so many - even if he was convicted on a single count he would be doing prison time and it would be the end of his career.

Some locals were speculating that if Luther were to run for Governor in a few years he would no longer have to worry about Mike Hubbard anymore. While I just don’t see that as the sole motivation it could be viewed as a “two-fer” — he proves he has zero tolerance for even the appearance of impropriety and he gets a political opponent out of the way.

It is also interesting that AG Strange is in a hot election battle with dem Joe Hubbard but this Hubbard has no known relation to Republican Speaker Mike Hubbard. But it does make it a tad more interesting.

Perpetual political control breeds corruption. We should expect politicians to practice self-interest. That’s why small government is so critical.

I hate being so cynical, but 98% of politicians on both sides are money grubbing, power hungry crooks.

I rate politicians just a tad above used car salesman.

And they’re going to start going after the democratic leaders for the same things when?

31 Could be a RINO attack. ... PAC’s activities touched off tension in the state Republican Party, and put Hubbard and Marsh at odds with the party’s new chairman, Bill Armistead.”

Your info tracks well with what Birmingham conservative talk radio host, Leland Whaley, said last FRI and today. Whaley knows Hubbard and has done business with him. He will provide us the low down as it becomes known.

"I rate politicians just a tad above used car salesman."

I think you're not giving used car salesmen a decent chance to redeem themselves. Salesmen can't kill you.

Politicians, on the other hand, will gladly murder you and your family if they think they might see a profit, and have the power to do so.

Who should dangle from a street light?

Knowing Mike, I’ll venture all of the charges are trumped up.

We don't hunt and fish together. I know him mostly through common friends and have spent some time with him in small group situations. My opinion of him is that he is a straight up guy and all our common friends, who know him much better are of that same mindset. The common friends I know very well and trust their opinions. Luther Strange probably recused himself due to their relationship to avoid accusations of a cover up. A lot of us have been waiting to see the charges. My worry is with 23 charges 1 may stick. If he has done something wrong and is convicted, so be it. I'm usually right on these things but I did say usually. Time will tell, bad timing is on purpose.
