In U.S., an Ebola crisis of confidence (by LA Times Editorial Board)
Los Angeles Times ^ | Oct 15, 2014 | LA Times Editorial Board

Even as U.S. health authorities continue to tell Americans not to worry about the Ebola virus, their assurances are being undercut by the increasingly obvious deficiencies in domestic planning.

The United States does not remotely have an Ebola crisis, but it is beginning to have a crisis of confidence in the Obama administration's handling of the matter.

President Obama made the right move early on when he offered $1 billion worth of aid to West Africa. Substantial aid is not only a necessary humanitarian response, but the smartest way to prevent a global health problem.

Now the administration also must toughen up its response at home.

The CDC was calling the shots in Dallas. The whislteblower nurse stated specifically (on Anderson Cooper’s show) that the CDC was there and told her the ‘new protocols’ that were in place.

Leftists (Bill Mahr etc) are trying to blame the Dallas hospital.

It was the CDC that dropped the ball.

Of course, nobody from Liberia should be entering the country at all so that’s the real ball dropped here, but ... slavery! So we let them in.

Typical LA Times - transferring a billion dollars from US taxpayers to African kleptocrats is a “smart move” by Obama, but shutting our borders to disease carriers would be racist and dumb.

EVERYONE is talking about ebola and Obama's extremely weak response to it. I can not go anywhere where somebody is not complaining.

And, for the most part it is conservatives informing the less conservative.

It may be a blessing in disguise.

And in another worrisome development, some Ebola experts are questioning the common assumption that screening for fever is a surefire way to detect possible infectious Ebola cases. In the current West Africa outbreak, about 13% of people with the disease never developed fever.

No joke. What great enlightenment the LA Times has blessed us with there. Any average Middle School kid paying attention knew that taking the temperature at an airport for a virus that has an incubation period of 2 - 21 days is an almost useless exercise. The Times doesn't even mention that glaringly obvious fact.

And we further learn that 13% of those infected never develop a fever.

They should have concluded that it is idiotic to allow people from the ebola stricken nations to enter the US at all until the virus is controlled in their home countries. It is beyond obvious they the screening being done is almost useless.

Endorsement- Obama for president

The nation has been well served by President Obama's steady leadership. And Mitt Romney has demonstrated clearly that he's the wrong choice.

Wonder what % of the billion will be used for it’s actual purpose and not outright stolen?

NOT So REASSURING---the CDC was calling the shots in Dallas.

CAN THEY TOP THIS? Course, we have yet to see Ron Klain and lamebrain Susan Rice reacting together....but it will be interesting to see if they can top CDC'S Frieden for utter stupidity.

FRIEDEN FAMOUSLY SAID: "You Can Give Ebola on a Bus, But You Can't Get It on a Bus."

The Strange Logic of CDC's Dr. Thomas Frieden.

Nothing this idiot says makes sense. He told Megyn Kelly
US health personnel just need to wear gloves and face mask to
prevent the contagion. But here he is in Liberia---covered to the hilt.

CDC's Frieden in haz-mat in Ebola-struck Liberia.

===============================================

CDC head Dr Tom Frieden Denies Enterovirus Link to Illegal-Alien kids wandering across the border into the US and into our schools---“There is no evidence that unaccompanied children brought EV-D68 into the United States; we are not aware of any of these children testing positive for the virus,” the CDC emailed WND......

Frieden's suck-up is so complete---Mexico is sending him a case of Tabasco-flavored Chap-Stix.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...
