DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) Texas Health Resources CEO Barclay Berdan had a letter published in both The Dallas Morning News and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram Sunday editions apologizing for some aspects of the response of Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital to the first U.S. case of the Ebola virus.
While expressing gratitude to the caregivers for their dedication, compassion and tireless work in caring for Ebola patients Thomas Eric Duncan, and Texas Health Presbyterian nurses Nina Pham and Amber Vinson, who both contracted the virus at the hospital, Berdan acknowledges Texas Health Resources made mistakes in handling this very difficult challenge.

Quarantine. Isolation of exposed person until incubation period over.
Is what these idiots calling a quarantine that or is it russian roulette letting people walk street taking their temperature?
Ebola is a level 4 biohazard.
Virtually no civilian hospital (or lab) in the country is trained or equipped to deal with a level 4 biohazard.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biosafety_level
If they really were, even fewer of us could afford to go to the hospital.
The real error here was the federal government allowing a level 4 biohazard into the country through an obvious vector - people coming from countries where it is running rampant.
I do like the Season 5 'Rick. He's had enough. I want him in my compound...because...ya know...things are getting to that stage...incrementally. It's getting close to "Michonne" time.
Hey Obama, be a MAN - Implement a travel BAN!!
There are 4 hospitals, all of which I cannot name. One is Emory, another NIH.
Sure, Barry and the guv are to blame, but the hospital could have at least given its nursing staff, who couldn’t be closer to the Ebola patient’s bodily fluids, the level of personal gear that your local hazmat cleanup crew has.
Hey Perry! Be a man!
Buy a Motel 6, or three, and IMPOSE Quarantine on every person who comes into contact with a sick Ebola person...for 30 days.
The average Motel 6 is PERFECT for this application of Gubernatorial Authority...nay, DUTY.
Set up the decon facilities in the parking lot. Have the local Presby Hosp food service (sweet revenge!) bring meals 3x/day.
Separate heat/cool/air. Separate shower/toilet.
Whenever ANYONE visits the facility, the have to be in full military NBC outfit and be decon'd upon their departure.
While they are at it they could study whether fleas and bedbugs transmit Ebola.
What's not to like about this plan?
Oh, this could all be done while Obama is being tried, then hung for his crimes.
“think they wanted to take care of Duncan to beef up their prestige(”
More likely that they kept Duncan at the request of the Administration/CDC, which just before that had said that “Ebola was no big deal”, and “any U.S. Hospital could handle ebola!”, to prove their point.
And then it back-fired.
No the real reason is that a hospital who refuses a person for any reason, especially if they are black or brown, will find the admins PERSONALLY responsible both civilly and criminally.
And the time honored practice of shunning has not lost its effect.

Follow the $$$
But Ebola (or any other deadly virus) is an equal opportunity killer.
Actually, let us do speak of the toxic cootie.
Cootieus Humanus Toxicus, irrational fear of.
Sorry but I am a true believer.
It is out to get me and the incompetence of others is acutely important.
Most folks wandering around "out there" on a day to day basis are to some degree incompetent.
Not everyone mind you but it only takes one to mess things up for a lot of folks.
However, they (Cootieus Humanus Toxicus) have always been around and are just part of the background noise of humanity.
But when combined with something like the ebola virus they are to be treated with a keen and focused awareness.
Distance is the only sure prevention here.
If you find yourself zipping up a Tyvek suite and tightening the straps on a full face respirator you are way behind the Get-Outta-Dodge curve.
I for example quit any kind of shopping anywhere NEAR the "hot zone" which right now is apparently a corridor from Greenville Av to White Rock lake / Buckner blvd and walking distance of any DART station northeast of White Rock Station on the blue line, south past Skillman and Lovers lane then further south on down to Live Oak.
Lets take a look at the scorecard.
Nurse 1 is 11 residential blocks from my place. I cross Marquita and go within 1 block of that house on my daily exercise route.
Nurse 2 is abut twice that distance right up Greenville or Skillman, take your pick.
DART station barfer is about 2 miles from Nurse 2 and stayed for a while in the same building as Patient zero, don't know when.
Patent zero (Ivy Apartments) and Presbyterian Hospital are about 2 miles north of Nurse 2.
Which is about 2 miles from my work.
Sooo, that `ol paranoia is really kicking in, don't ya know.
Good thing the price of gas is going way down...

A link to this thread has been posted on the Ebola Surveillance Thread
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
Thanks for the ping!
