Press Briefing by Press Clerk Earnest Jeste, 10/16/1348

Blondel the Minstrel Press Briefing Room

1:08 P.M. GMT

JESTE: Good afternoon, everybody. Nice to see you all. Apologize for the delayed start today. Bramwell, do you want to get us started with questions?

Q: Sure. Thank you. The King’s subjects are increasingly concerned about the spread of a malady that most call the Plague, which has killed multitudes in the Kingdom of Naples, the Holy Roman Empire and France. There are now cases popping up in our realm. Is the White Castle preparing a strategy to deal with the situation?

JESTE: Thank you. King Barack is well aware of this issue and is focused on it like a longbow. The Royal Centre for Foul Humours Control has determined that what the White Castle refer to as the bubonic condition is not communicable through casual contact. There is no reason for subjects not to go to the marketplace, to the tournaments, or ride in public carts. Everyone should go about their lives as normal and trust the science.

Q: Is the RCFHC working on a vaccine?

JESTE: I don’t know what that is. Durwin?

Q: Yes, does the White Castle know why plague workers keep dropping dead?

JESTE: We have heard anecdotes about some fatalities but have seen no hard evidence. For its part the RCFHC sees no relationship between the sudden deaths of the health workers and the bubonic condition.

Q: Even though they show the same symptoms and…

JESTE: Asked and answered. Udolf?

In the 14th century the Black Death bounced back and forth in waves across the Eurasian continent. Ripples of epidemic plague continued through the early 18th century. Something like 1/3rd of the people on the Eurasian continent died of plague in the 14th century. The descendants of those who survived inherited their ancestor's immune systems, better able to fight off communicable disease.

The ancestors of the peoples native to sub-Saharan Africa, native North and South Americans and native Australians did not have to survive the black death.

One wonders if Obama is taking that into consideration as he prepares to let Ebola cull the American populace.

Frst he’d have the NAACP/Sharpton/Jackson contingent come out and say that it’s racist to calling it Black Death. Then Obola would have a ten minute speech that would have a slew of Me’s & I’s in it and then he would follow that up with a Citizen funded trip somewhere to play Golf

Ironically, there is a well researched theory claiming that the Black Death was caused by Ebola-like virus, simply too many details contradict the official theory of rats spreading bacteria.

At least some of it was Plague. IIRC they’ve identified fragments of Plague DNA from cemeteries of that time.

Some definitely was (some reported symptoms do match Yersinia pestis and we know it was present too) but bacterial infection might have been secondary.
