Six Reasons to Panic
Weekly Standard ^ | 27 Oct 2014 | Jonathan Last

As a rule, one should not panic at whatever crisis has momentarily fixed the attention of cable news producers. But the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, which has migrated to both Europe and America, may be the exception that proves the rule. There are at least six reasons that a controlled, informed panic might be in order.

...

(2) General infection rates are terrifying, too. In epidemiology, you measure the “R0,” or “reproduction number” of a virus; that is, how many new infections each infected person causes. When R0 is greater than 1, the virus is spreading through a population. When it’s below 1, the contamination is receding. In September the World Health Organization’s Ebola Response Team estimated the R0 to be at 1.71 in Guinea and 2.02 in Sierra Leone. Since then, it seems to have risen so that the average in West Africa is about 2.0. In September the WHO estimated that by October 20, there would be 3,000 total cases in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. As of October 7, the count was 8,376.

Well, it’s two so far.

And my guess is we will see cases in Ohio. I get a he impression that one was infected and leaving trails of virus all over Akron.

Remember, as my tag line says...death is a lagging indicator.

Sorry, I meant that I agree with you.

I also believe that the current government will never be completely forthcoming.

If a deadly disease becomes rampant in the USA maybe people won’t WANT to border crash it any more.

This is all according to Obama’s plan!

The polio and respiratory flu that he brought in from Central America wasn’t enough, he had to bring Ebola too.

And nurse #2 went to Ohio and tried on wedding gowns. I bet no one is trying on wedding gowns in Ohio this weekend! Until we know FOR SURE how it is spread, I will TRY to avoid ebola patients...

Without personal commitment to the Lord, such prayers will at best do nothing, and at worst could backfire on the ones offering them. (The tenor of the bible is to make prayers FOR... not against, FOR... kings.)

When you become concerned with how bad your own heart is more than with how bad other hearts are, then you will be in a place to be leading the repentance that is needed to usher in a new blessing. Otherwise you will be a busybody bringing disrepute on the Lord.

It’s more like boringly misguided liberal ideology: Don’t dare upset anybody by doing something severe to stop the spread of the disease.

I am amused and amazed at the cunning being ascribed to an obviously groomed figurehead who can’t even tie his shoes without the advice of a Valerie Jarrett etc.

I don’t think the concern is about the people who have been identified as having Ebola as much as it is about the possibility that many more may have not yet developed symptoms.

LOL! I think Obama knows enough to be scared sh?tless. He knows more than he’s allowing the CDC to reveal and, being the narcissist that he is, he has pared down his public appearances out of fear.

Right. Ebola may not be “airborne”, but it is certainly mist-born. Walk into the mist from a cough or sneeze, take off the protective gear, brush back your hair then rub your eye, and you’ve now carried out a bodily fluid transfer.

Nonetheless, aside from very small numbers of people, the risk from the enterovirus is far, far worse.

He said he would fundamentally transform the greatest nation on earth, he is doing just that...
the only way to go is DOWN....
this is his plan....
this is why Rush said I HOPE HE FAILS....
Obama isn’t failing, this is all according to plan.
To rain down pure destruction on America...

Yes, two so far, but we are 9 days past his death. The next few days will show the remaining cases if there are any. The infected nurse in Akron may have been a little careful since she is a nurse of some sort. Containing her sneezes if any, washing her hands, keeping from lots of close contact. There is virus in saliva early according to the study I read and that would be the most risky point of contact.

The real problem is that we have 150 potentially incubating cases entering every day and scattering around our country ready to show up at a clinic or, eventually, dying in the street, shedding viruses like crazy.

He’s parroting the nonsense fed to him. Do you think he has the initiative needed to transform anything? Pawn, through and through.

He’d just go get a blood transfusion from a survivor even if the survivor died after the exchange.
