The CDC chief eventually admitted that they’ve spoken about the issue, but refused to confirm whether the White House checked with the disease control agency’s experts about halting flights.
“We’ve had discussions about the issue of travel to and from West Africa,” Frieden finally replied.
Scalise pressed Frieden over whether it’s active in giving the White House recommendations on what actions to take on travel between West African countries and the United States from a public health perspective, but Frieden would not say for certain what its interaction with the White House has consisted of so far.
“Have y’all had any conversations within the White House about a travel ban, and whether or not the President has the authority, because many of us have said the President does have the authority to do it today,” Scalise asked during a House Energy and Commerce committee hearing on the response to Ebola.
“From the point of the view of the CDC, we’re willing to consider anything,” Frieden said, repeating his standard response about flights coming from Ebola-affected countries.
“But have you considered it and have you ruled it out, or have you not considered it at all?” Scalise pressed on, but Frieden did not answer. “Have you had conversations with the White Houseabout a travel ban?”
“We have discussed many aspects — ” Frieden began, but was cut off by Scalise, asking yet again, “How about a travel ban?”
Oh it absolutely will. But think about it, would it not be far more torturous to let the reality of Hell dawn on people a little at a time rather than just dumping thm in the fire?
Let people see the fire coming and know there’s no way to avoid the swim.
To me, that would be more ‘Hell”.

I have often wondered if people before last two wars could see hell on eath a’coming- and knowing that you could not hide or run.
I would hazard a guess that the more intelligent could see the winds of war- but that the others just suddenly woke to the world at war.
I am not sure which is more frightening.
Strange part of now vs then, we have much better communication for news, the MSM cannot snow the average joe(serf) as easily.
It’s the desire for self delusion. I remember back in the first days of the internet. I lived in typical small town with the typical small town attitudes about new things.
To me, what was coming was as obvious as water being wet. Not that I’m any smarter than the average bear or Nostrodomous, but simply by critical/logical thought and extrapolation. But lots of people the world over, to this day, in the midst of the wonders it created, still can’t grasp the thing. Witness the GOP refusal to use it to their benefit while the Dems own that ‘space’ (god I hate that term but it fits I guess). Same for Blockbuster, Best Buy and Barnes and Noble. Buggywhipping themselves to death.
I see people in general like that. Ostrich syndrome, Frog in a pot, many terms for it. But they will go down with the ship rather than use the tools they have to their advantage...or use the tools at all.
I used the net as an example because it is the collected knowledge of the world at a mouse click. Anywhere, anytime. Sure, I’m a gamer and ‘waste time’ like everyone. But over the years I have read and researched and learned so much. Orders of magnitude more than my grandparents ever had available to them.
But people fear knowing more than learning. Because if you don’t ‘know’, you can keep pretending that a thing really isn’t a thing and is in fact some other thing entirely.
War, Muslims, Ebola, RINOs, Govt...pick any of a million and there is a fan club devoted to denying it is what it’s actions show. They could easily know. They could easily learn. But then they’d ‘know’. And the pretending would have to stop.

I am amazed at collected knowledge on the web, I am constantly amazed when I need some bit of info- just open the browser and find.
The shear volume of information probably exceeds all the knowledge in brick and mortar libraries.

Well, isn't that interesting I am reading this totally different than most here.
Looks Doctors and researchers in the CDC have been pushing for quarantining ebola but the order is coming from the White House and Freeman is stuck not saying where it is really coming from.
Freeman is telling congress to get a ban in place on their own. He can't stop Obama's decision but congress can....he thinks.

I also use the internet primary for learning and researching... Don’t forget how useful youtube for instructional guy type videos on fixing and repairing everything. Plus youtube for seeing old music and videos from your favorite artists of the past. “Everything” is on yourtube

Where else can one go on the web, and get the wealth of information that I see everyday.
I see technology people explaining pros and cons of operating systems.
I get to read about ancient civilizations.
I see how astronmers view the galaxy, they also let me know when a celestial event will take place.
I can see volcanologists discuss the latest volcanic activity.
I get to read about societal issues.
Free exchange ideas, where in history has this ever been possible.
Tweeting is todays fad.
Any idiot can tweet, but can any idiot be swayed by reasoned discourse.

I actually like the idea of Twitter for general quick whatever but all kidding aside, the reducing everything to a soundbyte thing is really lowering the overall IQ of the planet.
Where GenX and before got critical thinking classes in school, today, the whole of critical thought is being reduced to a sentence. We have a whole generation now that literally can’t hold more in their conscious buffer than that. Which is why Jon Stewart has become so ‘respected’ by the younger set. He speaks in one liners and they can only digest that much.
Witness the hashtag diplomacy.
Dems excel in one line propaganda. Conservative ideas don’t lend themselves to one line encapsulation. So basically, IMO at least, we can’t use the thing nearly as well as the left simply because our ideas can’t physically fit the format.
