No idea. But decades ago when I was active, the max for flight training was 33 and I believe 35 for most, including staff officers.
Mr Biden must have been particularly competent and a leader in his area of expertise (whatever).

Is it just me or has anyone else wondered why Hunter Biden at the old age of 43 would want to serve in the USN Reserve as an Ensign in a public affairs unit?My guess is that he figured he needed a "military service" checkmark on his resume for a future run for public office.
