The race for U.S. Senate in Virginia has not been a particularly competitive one. In a year in which Democratic incumbents across the country are finding themselves in hot water, Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) seems to have escaped the voters wrath. The revelation that Warner has been caught up in a federal investigation following the admission that he had engaged in quid pro quo discussions with a state senator in order to persuade him to not quit the Senate and surrender that institutions control to Republicans has, however, upended the conventional wisdom surrounding the race for Senate in Old Dominion.

I have seen Warner’s happy talk ad about bringing high tech jobs to SW Virginia. I have not seen establishment republican guy’s ads, but I don’t watch much.
Gillespie is one of the GOPe. As incumbents they have a prayer. As challengers warm spit is more exciting.
Immigration reform that includes a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants may not be the bogeyman many Republicans think it is, GOP strategist Ed Gillespie and pollster John McLaughlin said Wednesday, based on focus groups with conservatives in Iowa and South Carolina.
For one thing, many Republicans outside the Beltway don’t know what a pathway to citizenship is, much less whether they support or oppose it, according to McLaughlin and Gillespie. “When you bring up the phrase ‘pathway to citizenship,’ they don’t know what it means,” McLaughlin said. “There’s no reaction.”

They might save the money for Cantor’s Gubernatorial race in 2017.
A friend of mine retired from the military (he was an O-6) in 2010, moved to No. VA and landed a cushy job as a government contractor. He was a millionaire within two years. And he went from a conservative to supporting libs. He sold his soul.
The Republican left doesn’t know how to campaign against Democrats. They are too geared towards destroying the Republican base and conservatism.
Virginia’s a lost cause.Too many people depending on government checks...checks of both the welfare and “paycheck” variety.
Maybe Ed Gillespie should challenge Mark Warner to list exactly what he has done for the State as Senator, other than vote for whatever Obama wants, and trying to rig the state legislature? Warner is smart, so maybe he can make up something. He seems to be AWOL. Created hi-tech jobs in SW Virginia? Oh yes, it’s a regular Silicon Valley.
Pretty common thing. There really are few Democrats that practice any sort of ethics. They’re bound to get unethical Republicans on their side.
Neither candidate lists party affiliation in their ads. Watching Warner you’d think he’s a Republican
The GOPe never dreamed that they would have a chance in this race and prepared to do with it what they do in all races that aren’t layups, namely, quit. Suddenly, Warner finds himself in hot water for an attempted bribe and there is zero, zilch cash available to exploit it. Where is Whiteboard GPS? Nevermind, he is busy trying to explain why he advised Bush to bury that we had found WMD’s in Iraq. Don’t want to offend those moderates.
Virginia is a lost cause because the state GOP is actively working on behalf of the Democrat Party. They worked fervently to see that McAuliffe defeated Ken Cuccinelli, and have now topped it off by assuring that Warner wins another term. They made the move to the dark side back when Oliver North ran for the Senate, and they have never looked back.
So true.
It doesn’t help that the ex-senator and RINO nonpareil Elizabeth Taylor’s husband has endorsed the Democrat incumbent.
I do know that Gillespie is going to be running 300k in ads. He has closed the race. Warner’s support is dropping but the only question is whether it is fast enough. Sarvis is a bit of a spoiler. When he is out of the equation its a 1 point race in the latest poll which I’ve linked below. There is a very real possibility that come election day this race could be an upset especially if Gillespie has decent GOTV. Warner is betting the whole game on NVA. I’ve seen very little presence down state. Warner is being hurt by bribegate.
