Ebola panic goes viral
Philly.com ^

IT'S GOING VIRAL.

Ebola? No . . . at least not here in the United States, where the deadly virus has not spread among the general population. Although Ebola has been - and remains - a major, lethal public-health crisis in West Africa, cases in the U.S. have been limited to the death of a man who contracted the illness in Liberia before returning to Dallas, and now the infection of two hospital workers who treated him.

What is going viral, however, is fear itself - what Franklin Roosevelt might have called "nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror." Panic over a potential - yet still unrealized, and highly unlikely - pandemic helped cause a brief, death-defying drop in the Dow Jones industrial average yesterday and forced President Obama to cancel a campaign trip to meet with his Cabinet over what has become a political crisis, if not yet a public-health crisis.

"I want people to understand that the dangers of you contracting Ebola, the dangers of a serious outbreak in this country, are extraordinary low, but we are taking this very seriously at the highest levels of government," said Obama, walking a political high-wire. The president's mission - yesterday, and in the days to come - will be to convince wary Americans that the government is on top of Ebola, while squelching further panic; he stressed yesterday that he's shaken hands with and hugged doctors and nurses who treated patients with the virus.

But what do you need to know? Here's a Daily News primer:

Q: How crazy is the Ebola panic getting?

That attitude is what needs to go viral.

Belligerence to this government just short of open insurrection needs to go wide spread. All the bastards need to be put on notice.

It will take a whole lot of demonstrated competence and integrity to ever get my respect for any politician. Trust but verify is not even in my vocabulary. I don’t trust you, prove your integrity by your positives actions is all I can think about now when it comes to just about anyone.

The same montra every day “ The chance of catching Ebola is extremely low, you have to have direct contact.” The problem seems to be the waste product left over after a person has full blown Ebola. Seems like there are allot of ways for the stuff to contaminate.

How about her saying we should give him the power to do anything he wants? That proves she’s insane, he ALREADY does anything he wants!

In war, crisis or disaster it is the people who have a determined resolve to survive and who fight back against the protagonist who survive.

You gott a fight back. You gotta have a sense of self-preservation... a strong will to live that is not left to anyone else.

This goes for societies as well as people. Our society has lost the will to live.

I agree with you.

Silly bastards.

Just imagine if he had a cold, how many nurses would have caught it? Probably not a lot if any which tells me this Ebola is highly contiguous.

Exactly. Both posts 6 & 8 are nail meet head statements.

People aren’t afraid of the virus. People are afraid of the lack of competency in their Govenrment. And deservedly so.

In her case I think she is just so dumb that she is fortunate she doesn’t have to hire someone to wipe her arse.

She is nothing more than a life support system for a vagina.

Actually, no. The only fear-mongering going on is on the part of the dying media who are desperate for the next ‘crisis’ to bolster flagging sales of their increasingly irrelevant product. The average citizen is either oblivious or simply following the news as it develops.

Considering the laws of average, even an incompetent manager has a 50 50 chance of making the right decision. For the sake of the good of this country, obozo demonstrably falls far short of those odds. Check the stats if one believes we are better off today if one doubts it. Just about everything this regime (obozo) has said is exactly contrary to the reality and truth. Basically they (he) are still expecting us to trust what they are telling us about Ebola. The more we trust their contention that we the public have little chance of getting Ebola, one need only to apply the history of lies from this regime and trust that more people in the US WILL contract the Ebola virus. It’s likely that has been part of the obozo’s Transforming America plan all along. Defeating America and not a shot fired, yet.

Maybe because the government’s reaction to second hand smoke and the ability to hijack a plane is stronger than their ebola reaction.

Keep in mind the gov’t is really only interested in protecting itself, not the public.

Smoking stuff is a good way to get money. Folks that hate it have an excuse to limit it. No more danger from 2nd hand smoke to the public than any other kind of pollution.

For planes, notice how fast those body scanners went out. You will not see any such speed in getting level 5 quarantine facilities set up to deal w/ebola.

The gov’t doesn’t particularly care about you dying on a plane, but since they can be used as weapons, they needed to get those scanners out fast. What got gov’t to react was the hit on the pentagon, not the deaths of civilians.

So, folks are nervous because they realize that gov’t is not looking out for them.

I see no panic. I see no fear. I see curiosity, concern, and prudence. And anger at a dictatorial government. But we already had that before Obola. I do not see the need for articles telling all of us not to panic.

"The science is settled - ebola poses no threat outside of Liberia to anybody..."

Questioning the official line coming from the most lying corrupt Administration in the history of the Republic isn't panic, or ignorance, or fear mongering. It's common sense.

I do not see the need for articles telling all of us not to panic.

The articles telling us not to panic serve the purpose of reinforcing their contention that we are all panicking.

It's like making somebody angry by repeatedly telling them they don't need to be so angry.

"In this case, fear of incompetent democrats works very nicely in our favor."

Isn't this statement a bit redundant?

The fear is not unjustified. If/when Ebola gets into Central America, then it’s all over with. We’re into “The Stand” territory because of Obama’s southern open borders policy. Tens of thousands of Ebola-infected southerners will pour across our border and that’ll be all she wrote folks.
