I’m an RN.
I don’t need to call the CDC to ask if a temperature of 99.5 after caring for an EBOLA patient is ok.
Any temp above normal would have my full attention and I would not get on an airplane if there was a chance I could spread the deadliest virus on Earth.
The story is that this nurse was visiting her family with a temp of 99.5 after caring for an EBOLA patient. My sympathy meter is broken.
I also read that her mother got on a plane and flew to be with her after spending the last few days with her.
I don’t know if these details are true or not but I can’t drum up any sympathy.
Me either. But as an RN what do you think of what the CDC told her?

Thank you. I was getting ready to recant my condemnation of her. But what you said makes perfect sense.

I think it was on The Five today that someone (Gutfeld?) said that “Obama is treating this as a civil rights issue, not as a public health issue”.
Political correctness trumps survival.
I think the CDC is lying. They wear Level 4 suits at Fort Detrick and they know what’s what with this virus.
If only people could still smoke on planes, fewer people who catch other’s colds and Ebolas. I’ll bet I’m right about that!
You are of course correct W-S...but all RNs are not created equal. While I can certainly question Amber’s judgment, it is certainly also the fact that she didn’t have a fever when she flew out of Dallas to Cleveland. She probably figured, heck, I can check my temperature in Cleveland just as easy as in Dallas. She likely figured she was safe and excited about marriage plans.
Not to say she is 100% not guilty, but who knows if she was actually told not to travel (stories keep changing) - and then - when she did note a mild fever she did report it - only to be told it was OK to get on the plane.
I’m not saying she is the “brightest bulb on the string”...but it looks like she didn’t intentionally do anything wrong.
Now there is a bit of drama. Either she is telling a fib to cover her incredibly stupid mistake...or...she traveled even though told not to...or...she was never told.
That is the key.

On the numerous treads about this, I am sure I heard that the CDC admits she called asking about her fever.
The first question from the CDC should not have been about her temperature.
The first question should have been: “WTF are you doing on a plane???!!!”
I thought that Duncan did not receive a transfusion from the recovered doctor.
I heard Dr. Brantley on CNN just recently say he gave blood - they processed it - they took the plasma - and they gave him his red blood cells back. I think he said there were anti-bodies in the plasma.
I also think that by the time Duncan got to the hospital the second time he was basically screwed (poor guy)...they tried another drug instead but he died.
If that is indeed the case - and blood plasma is not type-dependent, the Doc should be able to give some for Amber - as long as he is in good health and a good producer.
Thank for the information. It make sense, but isn’t there another patient, a woman I think,they brought home from Africa who survived too.
