Doctor: Ebola Might Be Transmitted In Air Via “Droplets”

DALLAS (KRLD) — The executive director of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons says that despite what the CDC is saying, Ebola might be transmitted by breathing.

“What we’re suggesting is that it is very dangerous to assume that one cannot ever acquire Ebola from an aerosol or from breathing,” said Dr. Jane Orient.

When a patient vomits, has diarrhea, undergoes medical procedures, or even flushes the toilet, “there’s just a cloud that contains pathogen virus particles,” says Dr. Orient.

Dr. Orient says that when an aerosol dries up, droplet nuclei remain suspended in the air for a long time. A recent research study suggests that Ebola could remain infectious in an aerosol for more than an hour.

The droplets are “just too small” to be captured by standard medical masks, says Dr. Orient. A possible solution? Powered, air-purifying respirators for healthcare workers.

“In the laboratory, you actually breath air from the outside, which means you’re either tethered to your air supply or maybe you carry something like a scuba tank that has air that does not come from the room.”

Obama and his hacks have been saying it's not airborne. True.

They didn't say it's not spread by droplets. (The distinction between "airborne" and "droplets" is the answer to a test question. Unfortunately, Ebola is real, not the answer to a question on a test.)

» What is transmission by droplet contact?

Some diseases can be transferred by infected droplets contacting surfaces of the eye, nose, or mouth. This is referred to as droplet contact transmission. Droplets containing microorganisms can be generated when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks. Droplets can also be generated during certain medical procedures, such as bronchoscopy. Droplets are too large to be airborne for long periods of time, and quickly settle out of air.

Droplet transmission can be reduced with the use of personal protective barriers, such as face masks and goggles. Measles and SARS are examples of diseases capable of droplet contact transmission.

» What is airborne transmission?

Airborne transmission refers to situations where droplet nuclei (residue from evaporated droplets) or dust particles containing microorganisms can remain suspended in air for long periods of time. These organisms must be capable of surviving for long periods of time outside the body and must be resistant to drying. Airborne transmission allows organisms to enter the upper and lower respiratory tracts. Fortunately, only a limited number of diseases are capable of airborne transmission.

Diseases capable of airborne transmission include:

* Tuberculosis

* Chickenpox

* Measles

Just finished up a HAZWOPER 40 Hour class. Pathogens can be airborne.

I am not saying that ebola can be.

anyone that has taken even an introductory course on infectious disease knows this.

once the virus is in the lungs, it can exist outside the body in the water vapor being exhaled while breathing normally.

as such... any virus in the lungs is may be ‘air born’ for 3+ feet from the point of origin

“It doesn’t appear to be airborne at this time.”

Is there a person in the world who would want to be next to an Ebola carrier while he is coughing, sneezing?

The current CDC lead is still trying to figure out the flat versus round earth thingy.
