Doctor: Ebola Might Be Transmitted In Air Via “Droplets”

DALLAS (KRLD) — The executive director of the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons says that despite what the CDC is saying, Ebola might be transmitted by breathing.

“What we’re suggesting is that it is very dangerous to assume that one cannot ever acquire Ebola from an aerosol or from breathing,” said Dr. Jane Orient.

When a patient vomits, has diarrhea, undergoes medical procedures, or even flushes the toilet, “there’s just a cloud that contains pathogen virus particles,” says Dr. Orient.

Dr. Orient says that when an aerosol dries up, droplet nuclei remain suspended in the air for a long time. A recent research study suggests that Ebola could remain infectious in an aerosol for more than an hour.

The droplets are “just too small” to be captured by standard medical masks, says Dr. Orient. A possible solution? Powered, air-purifying respirators for healthcare workers.

“In the laboratory, you actually breath air from the outside, which means you’re either tethered to your air supply or maybe you carry something like a scuba tank that has air that does not come from the room.”

People people, let us not try to panic. Obama is so handsome women can hardly speak, we have that on our side. At least women will shut up if we show them photos of Obama.

I wonder about having Ebola and co-infection with a cold or the flu-—couldn’t coughing and sneezing in that case spread Ebola as well?

Ann Coulter just put out a column with probably the best title describing this:

“WE’LL TELL YOU HOW DANGEROUS EBOLA IS AFTER THE ELECTION”

http://www.anncoulter.com/columns/2014-10-15.html

So damn true isn’t it. This is a guy who allowed 4 Americans including a US Ambassador to be murdered because of an election, so you can just imagine what is going on behind the scenes now. “Oh the election is over, Democrats hold the Senate....Oh and by the way, 100,000 people in the US are infected”

Are the N95 masks that the CDC recommends considered standard?

I agree. Ebola sounds like the name “Obama” ergo it is racist.

20% of the people who came down with AIDS, had not been doing the things considered to be at risk behavior.

Do I think Ebola can be transmitted by air, perhaps?

Do I think it would be easily done? I don’t believe so.

I think you error on the side of being overly cautious.

If it’s me or mine, I advocate extreme measures to avoid contracting the disease.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Each report gets us closer to them admitting Ebola is airborne.

He doesn’t want to blocks flights from Africa because it might interfere with his “African legacy” according to an article I read on Yahoo news earlier today. Its all about politics to him. Nothing else matters.

The Ebola Reston virus made famous by the book "The Hot Zone" was only in monkeys; humans were immune to it. During post death autopsies they discovered that the virus was in the air sacs of the lungs, hence became airborne when the monkeys would do their thing by sneezing, coughing, and spitting. It was spread through the air to the other monkeys.

If they discover that this new strain is in the lungs/air sacs then we would have something to worry about. It doesn't appear to be airborne at this time.

There’s no “might” about it. Even the CDC says that can happen:

I work in the microelectronics industry, and people who do are familiar with the “spit” video during protocol orientation. It shows that every time you talk, thousands of tiny droplets of saliva are thrown as far as 15 feet in front of you. This varies by how you talk, the language that you speak, and the dryness of your mouth, but the point is that ebola does not have to be floating on the breeze to get to you. Infected people can just talk and get droplets on other surfaces, like other peoples’ clothing, toilets and urinals, microphones, dinnerware... And Ebola is known to survive for hours in a drop of spit... We have to make reasonable quarantines NOW.
