In the aftermath of the shooting in Ferguson, Missouri, where Michael Brown—a black teenager—was killed by Darren Wilson, a white police officer, we learned that Ferguson Police Department was nearly 95 percent white in a town where blacks were the large majority. Residents wanted change. “We want answers, we want justice in our community, we want diversity,” said Rev. Derrick Robinson in one of the early protests.

On the last point, at least, Ferguson city leaders agreed. “We hire everyone that we can get,” said Mayor James Knowles when asked about police diversity. “There's also the problem that a lot of young African-American people don’t want to go into law enforcement. They already have this disconnect with law enforcement, so if we find people who want to go into law enforcement who are African-American we’re all over it because we want them to help us bridge the gap.” Likewise, during one forum, Ferguson police chief Thomas Jackson said, “The perception is if we don’t have the diversity, we don’t have the understanding, and perception is reality.”

But there’s a problem. For as much as police diversity has value for image and community relations, it’s not clear that it does anything to cure the problem of police abuse and brutality in black and Latino communities. Just because an officer is black, in other words, doesn't mean he’s less likely to use violence against black citizens.

Let's see if we can find the manipulated stats in this horse manure, here's my entry:

At the same time, “criminal blacks” are a tiny, unrepresentative fraction of all black Americans. If you walked into a group of 1,000 randomly selected blacks, the vast majority—upward of 998—would never have had anything to do with violent crime. To generalize from the two is to confuse the specific (how blacks are represented among criminals) with the general (how criminals are represented among blacks). Statisticians call this a “base rate error,” and you should try to avoid it.

I have bolded the category and bolded and italicized the weasel word that enabled the deceptive stat by excluding all Black criminals deemed non-violent.

I think the fraction is much higher--maybe 5%. It's enough to make anyone around young blacks suspicious and careful.

If you doubt my estimate, explain why something like a third of black men spend time with the judicial system before the age of 30. Sure, some is nonviolent theft and drug dealing (not great, not violent), but the violent percentage is not 2 out of 1000.

Well, Ferguson residents need to sponsor programs and outreach to get more white people to move into Ferguson. It will cost tens of millions of dollars that the residents will need to put up, but if it make a difference in the life of one child, it will all be worth it.

When I knew about hiring policies there was a standing order if a black engineer applied hire him.

We also recruited from every black college in the US to try and find a black lawyer - without success.

There it is, folks. Every last damn cop in Ferguson would be black. If only there were qualified black applicants. And IF a black person is qualified? They sure as hell ain't gonna apply in Ferguson.

Due to the color of their skin and liberal Affirmative Action Programs, they can apply for and get a much better paying position over white applicants in a better (safer, less black) city.

Any minute now, Holder will release these findings before he leaves the Just Us Dept. /sarc

I tend to agree with your assessment, for decades the average criminal component of a given population (regardless of color) was about 2%, ten times what Jamelle cites.

One thug Negro that beat up a victim was shot dead.
This created a streetful of non-resident Negroes yelling and screaming and threatening the entire populace if they did not get their way. If these were caucasians doing this, it would be called a lynch mob. Now, it is a case of town security.
IMHO, when this flairs up, follow Vice President Biden’s edict, and shoot your shotguns at the perpetrators.

The corollary to your observation is that when the police supervise a White demonstration (example: TEA Party), there is no violence, theft or vandalism (or even littering), so the racist cops take no action.

When the police supervise a Black demonstration (example: ACLU), there is violence, theft and vandalism, so the racist cops take attempt to safeguard innocent citizens by controlling demonstrators.

Yeah I get it.

I imagine those whites include Hispanics, the movable demographic, white when it suits leftists, black or Hispanic when it doesn’t.
