JOHANNESBURG (AP) — International aid organization Doctors Without Borders said that 16 of its staff members have been infected with Ebola and nine of them have died.
Speaking at a press conference in Johannesburg Tuesday, the head of Doctors Without Borders in South Africa Sharon Ekambaram said medical workers have received inadequate assistance from the international community.
"Where is WHO Africa? Where is the African Union?" said Ekambaram who worked in Sierra Leone from August to September. "We've all heard their promises in the media but have seen very little on the ground."
Four of the organization's medical workers who had just returned from Sierra Leone and Liberia said they were frustrated, "chasing after the curve of the outbreak," according to Jens Pederson, the aid organization's humanitarian affairs adviser.

It is MSF. MSF is the acronym from the French for "Doctors without borders"(Médecins Sans Frontières)

Prior to this oubreak, they’ve been safe using enhanced bsl3 with a bsl4 virus. They are VERY careful and meticulous.
If a particular suit has a defect rate at 1 per 1000 and you only use 750 of those in a particular outbreak you may not ever ‘see’ the exposure and subsequent illness from that defect rate.
For example.
There’s also the issue of a vastly increased number of volunteers and patients. They’ve previously only treated patients in hospitals with a max of 20 patients. That was the largest number they felt was safe for their people. IIRC that has been increased to 100. There was a ‘reason’ for the 20 patient limit.
Plus there are undoubtely ‘new’ people doing the training and infection control who may not have the experience overall that was present in those positions in previous outbreaks just due to the much larger size of this outbreak.
I’ll defer to the biologists who say this strain may be different in subtle ways. Or maybe not.

If their suits are being manufactured in China, that may be part of the problem.

Yeah, let the Americans have to deal with it. We’re the ones that do most of the funding for WHO (UN) anyway.

Possibly. No idea though.
They do utilize many many locals during the outbreaks. They simply don’t have the people resources otherwise.
I would think that if 14 of the 16 were locals, there is something to it. Interesting.
The other day, I heard someone on CNN say that Ebola is hard to get. Look at the Doctors without Borders and they have lost few physicians.
When I heard this I thought it was a slam against the Christian medical organizations.
That certainly cleared my sinuses up. I remember that day well.
Refresh my memory since for me it was about 45 years ago. I vaguely remember being told that it wasn't actually tear gas cannisters in that room but rather a "milder" form designed to get the lesson across to us.......Am I correct?
If it wasn't "real" tear gas it certainly was pungent...........LOL!
I don’t know what they used. All I remember is that they put a tiny amount on the burner when we walked in. All exposed skin began to sear (neck and wrists). We were told to take a big breath and take the masks off. Then we had to wait for them to open the door. Felt like an eternity. They key was staying calm while holding your breath. Some dudes freaked out and they got it the worst. As we ran out the door snot came pouring out of our faces while our skin burned and itched. If that was mild stuff, I’d hate to see the real stuff. Terrible way to go.
Breaking News this morning said there is a 3ft area to catch Ebola from an infected person, which means it isn’t airborne is a lie.....any sneeze or cough has a three ft reach OR MORE IF OUTSIDE AND THE WIND IS BLOWING.
