re: nurse boyfriend

The link doesn’t actually report a diagnosis. I’ve heard others report that he has ebola, but haven’t found any solid confirmation yet.

Keep in mind the ~21-22 day incubation period. Duncan died 08 Oct. We won’t be able to say all-clear on his contacts until Oct 24.

Meanwhile the cases in the hot zone are rising exponentially, and those who can move are fleeing, to the US if they can, and nothing effective is being done to stop that, and very little to control the outbreak at the source. The odds of more asymtomatic infected arriving are just that, odds, and getting worse every day.

Everything I have read and heard here in Dallas is that he is asymptomatic and is quarantined in isolation at Presbyterian. This report is old “news”.

> We might become complacent ...

The +diagnosis is low enough to keep the complacent complacent. Anyone with an appreciation for how dangerous a virus this is understands that an uncontrolled case like Duncan is a potential disaster, and retransmission is a catastrophe unfolding.

And unscreened, untested, unquarantined arrivals keep pouring in. Even at the current low +diag rate, more cases at random locations are just a matter of time - because nothing prevents it.

Yep. Now WHO is saying to expect 10,000 cases per week in Africa. It's only a matter of time before those that "can" will be fleeing Africa in droves. And with our open borders policy, some of them WILL end up here.

I do not give damn crap about who this hurts in an election.

I care about catching this disease in a outbreak of it in this country.

WHAT DAMN DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE WHICH INCOMPETENT PARTY IS IN CHARGE OF THIS INCOMPETENT GOVERNMENT OF THIS INCOMPETENT COUNTRY!?

So this is what, the tenth reported possible Ebola case?

There will be a thousand false alarms.

Then there will be one real one.

Then there will be a half dozen real ones.

Then there will be a lot of official denials....

Mobile is where the canine Parvo virus mutation was transmitted to the world's canine population. It spread worldwide within six months.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

Recall that expanded screening has been installed at five airports, as the CDC proudly announced a few days ago. And these five airports covered the vast majority of the traffic into the US from West Africa.

Separately, we found that only 150 people from West Africa arrive in the U.S. daily.

Doesn't sound like a lot...until you realize that means 37-38 people arrive in the USA from West Africa everyday...and are never reliably screened!!!

Screening isn't the answer. Quarantining travel from West Africa altogether is the answer. Why can't this administration see that?

you have to be an idiot or very destructive to not know that to contain and treat something you keep it in the smallest geographic area possible.

It is highly unlikely that this woman has Ebola. It is possible if one of her relatives recently died from Ebola. Or it is possible if one of her relatives survived having Ebola within the last few months and if she had sex with that person.

I’m afraid they want us to be complacent until the fan gets switched on

Nothing is happening in my neck of the woods yet but I’ve been plenty nervous since day one
