Schumer: NY hospitals better prepared than Dallas for ebola

Schumer, during his press conference near the Brooklyn Bridge where he also discussed tresspassing legislation, said he understood why many New Yorkers are concerned but said what happened in Dallas will not happen in New York City.

“While there is never a way to completely eliminate the risk of Ebola, New York City hospitals are far better equipped than was the Dallas hospital and I think New Yorkers should know that.”

As usual, Schumer is full of _____. About 12 years ago, I had to have some surgery. It was supposed to be a 20 minute outpatient deal in a Brooklyn hospital. I had a fantastic surgeon, so I don't know why he had privileges in such a garbage hospital. The 20 minute outpatient procedure, once they got a look at what was really going on, turned into a 6 1/2 hour major surgery, involving 3 organ systems. It's a miracle I made it out alive from that dog house hospital. The surgery went perfectly, but rolling me up to my room from the recovery room, the black orderly kept bumping my gurney into walls (OUCH!). He then wheeled me into my room and made ME, 20 minutes out of the recovery room, wiggle myself off the gurney into the bed. Whereupon a lady walked into the room and started screaming that I was in her bed! I then had to wiggle myself (what, you thought he'd help me?) back onto the gurney and then off into the other bed in the room. Over the next week, as I lay utterly helpless and weak, I was subjected to verbal abuse from the nasty Caribbean nurses, I had to sleep under a vomit stained blanket that was not changed, I was left for hours in a chair and couldn't make it back to my bed until I called, "Help, help" to any passerby to the room. There was medical waste left all over the floor, the trash cans were not emptied, and once I was able to walk, I had to ask the DOCTOR to please get toilet paper for the room's bathroom. I wrote all this and more to the NY state medical board. They didn't even have the courtesy to reply!!

So maybe Chuckee Cheesehead might think NYC hospitals are ready for ebola, but I have plenty of reason to doubt it. Not every hospital in NYC is NYU or Lenox Hill Hospital.

There are 19 level four biocontainment beds in the United States for 317,000,000 people (none in New York City) and even I can see problems with the protective gear recommended for health care personnel taking care of patients with Ebola. Stir in a militant, oppositional hospital worker's union (1199) in New York.

The #1 US destination for travelers from West Africa is NYC and #2 is DC.

I think what we are seeing is a slow motion train wreck all over the US. Problems are likely to be even worse in New York than in most cities. Schumer is an idiot -- of course, we all knew that.
