Facing Glut, Price of Oil Falls Sharply

Oil prices sank again on Monday, giving consumers more of a break and causing a split among OPEC leaders about what action should be taken, if any, to halt the slide.

The price drop has led to a near free fall in gasoline prices in the United States. On Monday, the national average price for regular gasoline was $3.20, 9 cents lower than it was a week ago and 14 cents below the price a year ago, according to the AAA motor club.

The Saudis and OPEC can increase production to lower prices in order to discourage drilling in the US.

I paid .99/gal in 1999 in Rockville MD.

It’s now down to $3.30/gal and we get news articles about a glut.

When I moved here in 2003, the price was 1.319.

Got a ways to go yet.

Fell below $3.00 here just today for the first time in years. It was $3.15 yesterday, I thought that was cheap and filled up.
