Purdue professor says Ebola 'primed' to go airborne

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The first case of Ebola transmitted between patients in America has experts across the country reviewing safety protocols.

At Purdue University, Dr. David Sanders has been studying the virus since 2003 – specifically how this particular Zaire strain of Ebola enters human cells.

While the virus has thus far only been shown to be transferred via bodily fluids, Sanders argues that it could become airborne.

"It can enter the lung from the airway side," Sanders said. "So this argues that Ebola is primed to have respiratory transmission.

"We need to be taking this into consideration," he continued. "What if? This is not a crazy, 'What if?' This is not a wild, 'What if?'"(continued)

Going into this - if one has to go into this - or the govt allows this to spread - is having a healthy system...those with a healthy system fair much better than those that do not...as with any viral infection...

"We need to be taking this into consideration," he continued. "What if? This is not a crazy, 'What if?' This is not a wild, 'What if?'"

Sanders said the longer the virus spread and mutates, the more likely airborne transmission will become.

Sanders said it's impossible to know how many Americans could contract Ebola, or how much longer this outbreak could last. But, he said, the danger is still very low for the average American.

Well, that's great to know. But what if it becomes airborne? Could happen. Maybe more information will be available at their educational forum this afternoon, noon to 1:30 p.m. If you can't make it in-person, you can watch a live video stream of the forum here.

“but no one was using a SCBA”

What is that? Is it a self-contained breathing apparatus?

Yeap...

I deplore Hollywood movies - but in the one with Dustin Hoffman - they used SCBA...to fight what appears to be Ebola...

It’s the only way to be sure you are removed from floating particles in the air...especially around those that are spewing their insides out...

If you can’t catch Ebola from airborne transmission, then why do the CDC people all wear respirators?

Anything is possible, of course, but with 18,959 base pairs in the genome, a mutation that changed the fundamental structure of the virus without destroying it would be kind of like you winning Powerball.

“Only contact with bodily fluids can transmit the disease, but don’t come within three feet.”

Well yes people sneeze and do other things, I’ll worry about other things. And I’ll let others panic about Ebola. Obola has caused a lot more damage. The demonic ISIS is also a much bigger threat.

Kind of makes you wonder if JF’n Kerry and all his nonstop “man made climate change is destroying the planet and we must act now or it’s too late” BS at the same time as this Ebola outbreak is just a coincidence.

At this time I wouldn’t be surprised to find out a group of nut case enviro wackos funded by billionaire enviro wackos has in fact been spreading Ebola to reduce the population.

With dem politics I find it very hard to believe anything they do is “just a coincidence”.

The “Just a coincidence” always seems to fit right into the dems plans.

And most every week, someone wins Powerball.

I have posted this before UT bears repeating.

In July, I took a friend’s husband to the doctor. I touched nothing and didn’t sit down. Just a few days later, I came down the the adenovirus- respiratory stuff, pinkeye, severe weakness, coughing, etc.,...

Ended up in urgent care where the doctor told me it was an airborne virus. My friend’s husband didn’t get it and there were no obviously sick people around me. No one was coughing or sneezing. Truth be told, I felt like I was dying.

I’m betting it wouldn’t even take 1000 maybe even 100 to overwhelm the system because we don’t have people trained to handle it nor do they have the facilities to handle it.

Is there a possibility they are being trained not to save the rest of us, but to handle us?

Quite the astute observation, FRiend.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

The ebola virus is a master of mutation. If it hooks up with something from a flu virus and they exchange phone numbers, it could actually change the way it is transmitted.

Actually Ebola is actually not a “master of mutation”, at least not that we know of so far. It has been rather stable since first detected around 1976 and has not undergone any significant mutations in the same way that say the various strains of influenza viruses does.

As far as viruses go, Ebola is from what I understand, more along the lines of Hepatitis and HIV and neither of those has mutated to any great degree overtime and none of them have changed their mode of transmission nor have they ever “hooked up” with other viruses, despite many more years and many, many thousands of people having been infected than Ebola and among people who have contracted and or been exposed to other viruses.

The common cold and influenza virus are very prone to mutations (and that is why you can catch a common cold more than once during your lifetime and why there is an annual flu vaccine and not a “one and done” vaccine for influenza unlike vaccines for other viruses like Measles that are not prone to mutations.

If influenza could so easily “hook up” and “exchange phone numbers” (seemingly because all viruses get very horny and will indiscriminately hook up with other viruses at the human body nightclub during “last call” – you don’t have to go home but you can’t stay here”) with other non-related viruses, we’d already have seen their illegitimate one night stand babies like “influmeasles”, “tubercuenza”, “influrabies”, “polioenza”…..

Cue the porno movie music:

That would be Dr. Pianka whom I've posted about on FR for years and hardly anyone paid attention. He's at the University of Texas in Austin which is full of foreign students singing his praises. It is just a matter of time before one of them acts on his teachings. As usual with these sickos, they don't volunteer to go to the front of the extermination line.

I’ve heard from people in the know that if it goes airborne it has to trade that for some significant lethality.
