From the memo...

"For DoD, this equates to an estimated 175,000 current Active Duty Service members who will die from smoking..."

Very similar language used by leftists when they went after diesel engines and coal fired power plants...nothing to support their allegations...just some numbers pulled completely out of their collective a$$es and the nanny staters run with it...

Oh wait...

I know math is hard...No one is saying they only die as active duty members it’s the size of the population pool, smoking kills them when they are inactive too.

About half of all smokers die from smoking per the DoD memo.

I think 30% of military members smoke...Therefore 15% of the military will die from smoking. Active or inactive.

Math? Are you using the common core version?

I don’t care what you “think”, now you’re just in denial and are trying to spin this...you were the one who addended the argument by including “inactive”...when the memo you’re pinning your hopes said no such thing.

They are saying ACTIVE DUTY...more hyperbole and pure unadulterated bovine excrement.

Again, it’s just like the liberals who used this EXACT same method to demonize diesel and coal fired power plants...and here you are...

I give up. Let me ask you? What percent of military troops die from smoking?

Clinton outlawed guns on post. They were too great a hazard and not one of our esteemed conservative congressmen has ever brought it up for a vote.

2 can play that game...

How many die of alcohol related traffic crashes? I bet that information is easily available...and it is statistically proven, unlike this garbage posted by the DoD.

So when do we ban alcohol sales on post? Are you going to fight that as well? Didn’t think so.

If a grown adult decides to smoke given the amount of available information regarding the risks, who but a nanny state liberal would arbitrarily decide they can’t?

Like the chart showed, <6k die of “illness” in 19 years...this does not in any way support the baseless allegation made by the memo.

To paraphrase that popular meme, “You do not simply refuse to cooperate.” The brass would have squished me underfoot like a cockroach. You can, however, actually accomplish much by being valuable, sincere and ballsy. I was all of those and used it. My favorite eval stated yours truly, “has a somewhat outspoken manner towards authority”. I was very heavy on the 3rd quality.
It is a dangerous occupation. It is worth the danger, health threats and general BS. I regret none of it. Well, maybe I regret that I never mashed that Polock 1st Class LPO in the face back in 1983. He had it coming.

“Too funny to warrant a response.”

If I had the time I would dig up your comments. You are a nasty little imp that almost always defaults to personal attackes.

“You didn’t read the DOD memo, did you?”

No, there is no need. The claim doesn’t even pass the smell test for sanity.

Fools fall for nonsense.

“What percent of military troops die from smoking?”

Zero percent. Unless you are a lying demagogue.

Yet, you ignore the facts placed before your very eyes...all to maintain the illusion.

<6k dead of “illness” (undefined) in 19 years does not support your assertions (supporting and depending on the DoD memo) that smoking is killing (~175k) ACTIVE DUTY servicemembers.

If you don’t understand population pools, I can’t explain it to you. Do you also agree with CSM that smoking kills zero troops?

Follow up question, for those troops who smoke, how many are addicts?

How many are alcoholics?

I’ll bet you a fat, crispy fried donut that many more die from alcohol than smoking while on ACTIVE DUTY.

You’re dodging and weaving now...that memo is pure crap and you hitched your wagon to it...

Let me guess...You don’t understand. That’s OK, math is tough for some.

Any insights to CSM’s claim that zero troops die from smoking?

A military troop is only made up of Active Military members. Retirees are excluded from the definition of that term. What we have been told for years is that “smoking kills” after many years of smoking and “ends lives sooner than they otherwise would have ended.”

How many years is the average for each “troop” to serve? My bet would be somewhere in the 6-8 year range, however imagine that every active duty member served until they were retirement eligible and smoked the entire time. That still would not be enough time for them to “die from smoking.”

So, some percentage of troops smoke, but they are no longer a “troop” well before any diseases would have been developed from smoking. Therefore, smoking kills zero percent of the troops.

Unless one is a demagague that changes definitions, rejects logic/reason, and tells lies in order to advance an ideology.

“Follow up question, for those troops who smoke, how many are addicts?”

Nearly 100% of them. Those that are not addicts are discharged. Some of the addicts are addicted to alcohol, some are addicted to coffee, some are addicted to food, some are addicted to physical fitness, some are addicted to range time, some are addicted to starching uniforms, some are addicted to keeping clean quarters and some are even addicted to bossing others around.

The Army trains addicts, it is their job to create a mechanical human being that must perform tasks in 4 step processes when confronted with stressful situations. I’ll assume the Navy, Marines and Air Force train in the same manner.

I posted upthread some of the many things folks can get “addicted to”...

He also refused to address the statistical fallacy inherent in that memo he pinned his argument on...simply some number that was pulled out of someone’s a$$...

Two things:

1.Flat Earth? Denying science? Geez, this sounds like the standard liberal response to anybody who questions man-made global warming.

2. The reason why Altria put the skull and cross bones warning on their lame cheap e-cigarette product has nothing to do with truth Or their altruistic benevolent concern for the health of their fellow man. They know that their name is mud. That’s what happens when you lie. Nobody believes a liar even when they are telling the truth.

So they preempted the statist government FDA regulators call for warnings by going over the top.

Its just CYA and PR and $$$.

If they think that they can sell $10 lame ecigs for a large profit margin at 7-11, they are in for a Rude awakening.

Unless their lobbyists can figure out how to kneecap their competition, the mom-and-pop vape shops selling superior technology and liquid at a quarter of the price.
