A Policeman Pulls Over a Woman, But Instead of Giving a Fine, He Gives Some Much-Needed Compassion.

While getting pulled over is typically dreaded among drivers, for one fortunate woman from Michigan, it could be what saves her daughter’s life.

Officer Ben Hall of Emmett Township, Michigan, pulled over Alexis DeLorenzo and her five-year-old daughter because DeLorenzo’s daughter was riding without a car seat. In the state of Michigan, children under eight must be fastened into a booster seat while riding in any vehicle.

Hall learned that DeLorenzo’s car was actually repossessed earlier that day along with her daughter’s booster seat, which was inside the vehicle. But instead of writing DeLorenzo a ticket, which he felt would not help the situation, Hall met the family at Wal-Mart and purchased the little girl a booster seat. Image credit: Facebook

According to Officer Hall:

“It was the easiest 50 bucks I ever spent.”

DeLorenzo made sure that people know about Hall’s gracious act of kindness by writing a “thank you” letter on the Emmett Township Police Department’s website.

“I would like to say thank you to officer Hall for his help and compassion. Last night he helped me and my family out more than he will ever know. I recently hit a financial struggle, lost my vehicle, and my children’s car seats. And last night officer Hall was doing his job and saw that my daughter was not in a car seat, and yes I know how important it is for her to be in one, he went out of his way, and out of his own pocket, and purchased my daughter a car seat. I thank God for putting you in my life officer Hall. You are an amazing man, and I will never forget the kindness and compassion you showed me, and you also showed my daughter and myself that there are people out there that care. Thank you! “

The department’s Facebook page was flooded with similar sentiments thanking Hall for his service:

People from all over the country – and world – were inspired by the story:

And many noted the selflessness behind Officer Hall’s simple act:

We hear about so many stories of police brutality and can forget about the true heroes that are out there every day helping people and making our country a better place.

It’s officers like Hall that should be recognized, because while this may be a small gesture, it won’t be one that is quickly forgotten.

Kudos to the cop. Had he ticketed the mom she would have been
out the fine $ and no closer to buying a booster seat.
Having stated that just how many of us boomers recall
the days of no seat belts, let alone booster seats? That
and mom and dad up front smoking cigarettes like it
was a contest. Not saying we had it Depression Era tough
just that things are relative.

Hey, the 5% of cops who aren’t quite able to give the other 95% a good name.

I’ve always thought Matt Dillon was just about perfect as a lawman. He was never a bully and was adept at defusing the situation. But if one continued in defiance of the public peace, look out!
