“He’s a Democrat. People expect them to be crooks, but don’t care as long as they get their Free Stuff. In fact, being a crook is a resume enhancement.”

I hate to say this, but this is how Chicago worked (and rather well) for many years in the first half of the 20th century. As long as your taxes were reasonable, your street was clean and any pothole got called into the alderman and fixed in a week, and the trees on your street got trimmed, why would you care if the wheels got greased occasionally? You might even call your alderman up and get your kid a summer job, because he would know people. His representatives would remind you of this come election time. If you were just a working schlub, all he would want was your vote.

Where the system broke, was when the politicians started taking and then never giving anything back.

“Typical democrat..”

Two little words but the most devastating words in the English language to a democrat.

Did Warner attempt to bribe him with a chocolate fountain at the Stratosphere.

The current administration and their ilk are responsible for coverting more Democrats into Republicans than at any other time in history. I’m sure it’s in the multi-millions by now....actually now that I think about I may be low-balling it. It’s probably in the tens of millions...

No, scandal is a career enhancer for Democrats. He will win by a bigger margin now.

This might cost him 1 percentage point of the votes unless some formal charges are filed.

"Let’s not forget that it was Gov. McAwful’s aide who made the initial call about the bribe.

With any luck, we’ll get a two-fer."

Dear God, please let it be so. That corrupt, evil POS McAuliffe just officiated at a lesbian "wedding", and he sent notice to social service offices that queers can now adopt children in Virginia.

I heard it this morning. I didn't know it was possible to cry out of sheer rage, but I did just that.

Well, it’s hard to say we approve of “greasing the wheels” of government. But, political machines such as Chicago, as you described, were responsive with delivering city services and helping constituents when they could. Summer jobs for your kid is a good example. Then when elections came around, you supported them because they had done some good things for you.

Maybe things are different now because of the welfare state? Democrats still want your vote, but, in cities such as Chicago, more and more they represent people on public assistance, as opposed to working class people. Now they urge people to continue to vote Democrat so evil Republicans don’t cut back their EBT benefit amounts.

John Warner has always fought against conservatives. He came out against Oliver North too.

The funny part about this is the Democrats were the ones to request the investigation and they were hoping to catch a Republican State Senator in a bribe. The horsetrading does not seem to be illegal according to Virginia ethic rules, there is a long history of this happening, but the FBI thinks it is illegal under Federal Law. So who knows what is going to happen now.

Also, might be a three-fer, I am sure the Dem Senate Leader was involved too. Saslaw getting indicted would be awesome.
