Wisconsin, Texas voter ID laws blocked by courts

The U.S. Supreme Court has blocked Wisconsin from enforcing its strict voter identification law in this year's election..

By a 6-3 vote, the justices granted an emergency appeal from civil rights lawyers who argued it was too late to put the rule into effect.

Lawyers for the ACLU had noted the state had already sent out thousands of absentee ballots without mentioning the need for voters to return a copy of the photo identification.

It would be "chaos," they said, for the state now to have to decide whether or not to count such ballots because the voters failed to comply with the new law.

Justices Samuel A. Alito Jr., Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas dissented. The six justices in the majority did not issue a written opinion to accompany the decision to lift an order by a lower court that would have allowed the law to take effect.

At nearly the same time, a federal judge in Texas struck down that state's new voter ID law on the grounds that it violated the constitutional right to vote and discriminated against racial minorities.

Texas Atty. Gen. Gregg Abbott said the state would appeal the ruling.

The Wisconsin and Texas cases were the two most closely watched tests of new voter rules this year. In both states, the Republican-led legislatures sought to tighten the rules for voting and to require all registered voters who did not have driver's license to obtain a photo ID card at a state motor vehicles office.

ALL of them, except Alito, Scalia, & Thomas. I’m so disappointed. I’m also disappointed that there has not been a WORD about it on Fox.

And it’s very deliberately right before an election. The Republican Governor is in a tight race with a Democrat Airhead challenger.

So we have to have ID for the “privilege” of driving a car but do not have to have an ID to exercise our RIGHT to vote?

Does that mean I no longer need an ID to “keep and bear arms” as is my right?

And we have to have a photo ID to get a library card, to board a plane, to cash a check, to exercise at the YMCA, to get food stamps, to open a bank account. But voting is open to anyone who comes down the pike!

Just more evidence of how corrupt this country has become. Should be expected seeing as how this generation has been educated.

Why vote at all when the black robes just do what they want any way?

Yep, again, right before an election the feral gubbamint begins suing states in an effort to alter the outcome of an American election.

Most folks gloss over when they read news like this. For me, it sends up red flags.

Utilizing the courts and all the alphabet agencies, particularly the IRS to exert pressure on folks who fight against the socialist progressive agenda.

Very troubling that the gubbamint would use such soft tyranny to attack American citizens.

There is no logical argument against the requirement states put in place to ensure integrity of the vote. This is a concerted effort to pervert the electoral system to their advantage.

Texas will give a person, free of charge, a state issued ID. So their argument in the courts are bogus. The federal judge should be arrested and jailed for conspiracy to commit election fraud.

They all have to have a voter ID card. That is the issue.
