Phillip Smith at the Drug War Chronicle sums up the news reports detailing the latest casualty in the never-ending U.S. war on drugs.
A Georgia SWAT team shot and killed an armed homeowner during a September 24 drug raid sparked by the word of a self-confessed meth addict and burglar who had robbed the property the previous day. No drugs were found. David Hooks, 59, becomes the 34th person to die in US domestic drug law enforcement operations so far this year.
According to WMAZ TV 13, Laurens County sheriffs deputies with the drug task force and special response team (SWAT team) conducted a no-knock search on Hooks home in East Dublin on the evening of the 24th. When the raiders burst through the back door of the residence, they encountered Hooks carrying a shotgun. Multiple deputies opened fire, shooting [and] killing Hooks.

I think that the police sense the chance of a lot of forfeiture money. Bank account, real property, equipment, vehicles. The sale of which all the procedures would go to their Christmas Party fund.

Nope. Now they are merely criminals with badges.
I had a rather lengthy discussion about this with one of our local officers a couple of years ago. I didn't change his mind, but he admitted it was something he should think about.
The entire drug war is founded on precidents that came about because of Amendment XVIII. Once the amendment was repealed, the entire foundation should have collapsed, but because our government has been out of control for decades this has never happened.
“it is an opportunity to do the things they enjoy and have been trained to do.”
“I think that the police sense the chance of a lot of forfeiture money.”
Correct and correct.
I have said it here before... our family’s house was raided by the King County Swat Team. They were just getting ready to knock down the front door when my wife who was recovering from foot surgery managed to get it open. She had multiple guns pointed at her and was held up against the wall while a dozen or so guys dressed in full swat gear ran around the house making a mess.
We never got a reasonable sounding excuse or any type of apology. It was a screw up just like this one. If I had been home and armed with one of many of the firearms that we own this same fate could easily have happened to me. I worked for a local fire department for 25 years, and haven’t got even a speeding ticket on my record. Many of these swat teams are made up largely of guys and gals who are wannabe combat veterans who never actually served in the military.

The price you - or David Hooks - paid is a small one to combat the ingestion of disapproved substances. /s
Sadly that happens and will become more prevalent as the Gang with a badge continues to kill more “civilians” who get in their way fighting the other gangs.
Ten years ago I could tell my kids the police are your friend if you need help, now I say look you need to avoid the gangs and the cops interaction with either will end badly for you. One wants to rob or kill you and the other will kill you or jail you for whatever the reason of the day is.
Sadly we have a lot more roger ram jets and Barney Fifes with fully automatic weapons and APC’s wanting to be Seal team 6 rather than Andy Griffith, a peace officer. And yes I have relatives that are police officers and yes I know there are good ones, but I have found these days they are out numbered in most cases.
You’d have to sell drugs to be able to pay for all that stuff ;)
The Nanny Staters learned from the Volstead Act. Don’t put it in writing that can be overturned.
Publish the names and addresses of all officers involved.
Let nature take its course.
In the Original Story on this sit from Sunday, they stated the warrant was issued by a “Non Deputy” compliance magistrate?? I do not know what it means but it sounds like he NEVER had the authority to issue ANYTHING.
As for the Gestapo Agents, when I was a child in the 60’s we read a lot about a Nations Leader that created a “Law Enforcement Agency”. this agency had the authority to ARREST, TAX their Citizens at will, and Even Shoot and Kill those that did not comply or looked dangerous. If they did happen to Murder an Innocent, there was NO CONSEQUENCE. In fact there was never any consequences for any wrong doing they might do, the people lived in FEAR of this Law Enforcement Agency, and rightly so. They were created by Joe Kennedy’s best friend Adolf Hitler, and he called them the Gestapo.
aint it a bitch being old and knowing how to read
Save me a seat.
It is.
Actually, he merely "rented" his home from the State...
