Turkey’s President Calls for Ground Troops to Fight Islamic State

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Tuesday the besieged Syrian city of Kobani was in imminent danger of falling to Islamic State and called on the U.S.-led coalition fighting the radical group to bolster its air raids with ground operations.

The U.S.-led air campaign hit Islamic State positions Tuesday near the Syrian border city of Kobani, known in Arabic as Ayn al-Arab, but officials and Syrian opposition members said the militants were still advancing against Syrian Kurdish fighters.

During a visit to a refugee camp in the border province of Gaziantep, Mr. Erdogan declared Kobani was “about to fall” and said the air campaign wasn’t enough.

“You can’t end this terrorism just by airstrikes. If you don’t support them on the ground, by cooperating with those who take up a ground operation, the airstrikes won’t do it,” he said.

Erdogan didn’t like Biden leaving him holding the bag. Meh, more optics in a ‘war’ designed to be nothing but optics.

The Turkish parliament voted overwhelmingly to allow foreign troops into Turkey... and it provided the legal framework for Turkish troops to enter both Syria and Iraq.

this is why I knew Obama was full of —— regarding this being only an air campaign, the parliament would not have voted on this had it not been something that had already been diplomatically floated. Turkey is in a precarious position, being a muslim country that operates as a free capitalistic society... not saying there isn’t corruption. They need the cover of allies to go in and fight against other muslims, or they risk fomenting the more conservative muslims in their own country.

Biden is the best pick Obama could have made to be his VP. It guarantees he won’t be impeached under any circumstance.

I like it. If Obama really wanted to, by treaty he could take out the weapons we supplied ISIS with using our own and the weapons we supplied Turkey with.

What happens if the Kurds (who we've allied with) defend Kurds who live within Turkey's borders? Then will we have to declare war on the Kurds while we're assisting the Kurds?

You can't make this stuff up.

Turkey wants to draw NATO into a war that will only further weaken the West.

Aren’t you one of the posters that always looks at the world from the “what’s best for Vladimir Putin” perspective, as opposed to what advances human liberty? I’m sure of it.
